Lee Majors: I Couldn't Watch the Farrah Special

5/23/2009 1:18 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Farrah Fawcett's first and only husband, Lee Majors, was not among the nearly nine million people who tuned in to see the TV special about her cancer battle.

Lee Majors -- play video

Yesterday at LAX, the former "Six Million Dollar Man" said the "whole thing was a little bit over done."

On a totally separate note ... Majors just celebrated his 70th birthday. We salute you, Col. Austin.

The word jerk trips of people's keyboards so easily, doesn't it? Honestly, I wonder if I watched the same video. Lee Majors is caught going through LAX on his way to catch a plane and is asked to speak about his wife who he petitioned for divorce nearly thirty years ago. Yes, thirty years ago! Now firstly, none of us knows what happened between them all those years ago. It's called "their business", not ours, but just imagine having a TMZ reporter thrust a microphone in your face asking you to comment about how you feel about your ex-wife when your present and very tolerant wife is walking just two or three paces in front of you.

Let's flip the coin. Has Farrah been asked repeatedly over the years about how she feels about Lee whilst Ryan is in the same room, or has Ryan been asked endlessly how it was to cheat on his best friend? No, I didn't think so. But Lee, a true and very private gentleman, is asked repeatedly about Farrah. And you know what, he and his wife, Faith, deal with it politely every time.

The video to me simply shows a man who didn't want to see the programme because it would be painful to watch and whose comment about it being overdone was simply a response to a question about the hype and lawsuits. People who want to see it otherwise simply have their own agenda.

Do people who are fans of Farrah and wish her well really think it does her any service to rubbish Lee in this way? I'm a fan of Lee but feel for Farrah dreadfully at this difficult time. Surely, people can put aside their continual animosity and remember Farrah is the important one at this time. Surely prayers are what she would appreciate more.

Well, it was Lee who made Farrah his “ex”, Mary, not the other way around. Why do you misrepresent him? H e didn’t say “cancer was overdone”. They were your words not his. Sadly, the need to argue against Lee seems more important to you than the facts. I’ll leave the arguing to you. Lee doesn’t need defending and Farrah doesn’t need this.

To Post 85 Teri,

Do you really feel that people need to be enlightened about the "ugliness of cancer"? I seriously doubt it but if you found that kind of positive message in her special than I am happy for you. I am simply stating that I saw alot more of "I can't believe this happened to me" (why do people think it won't happen to them?) then public message of hope. Since she has the interest of the public, I just think that the way she used her fame wasn't the most constructive for people with anal cancer or cancer period.

What a jerk! Noone said he should be crying or "pining over her", but simple human compassion would be nice. And Ryan has been a jerk in many ways, too, but it's obvious that he adores her. And maybe he will come out of this a better man, especially toward his own children! I don't believe that God's plan is to punish the person who is dying; they will end up in a far better place. It is meant to help those who are left behind learn from it. And just because it isn't possible to film everyone's story and air it on TV, doesn't mean that Farrah's story shouldn't be shown. She seems to be a genuinely sweet person who usually enjoys the role of caretaker. I will continue to pray for a miracle for her!

So human compassion is only measured now by saying the right soundbite to camera for the satisfaction of TMZ viewers?

Do you hear yourselves?

Farrah divorced Lee 30 years ago for Ryan O' Neal, Ryan is taking advantage of Farrah's situation and trying to make a buck of the video that someone else took. That's the real info which isn't getting played out in the media. Lee Majors couldn't bring himself to watch the show because he didn't want to see Farrah in that condition. What a shame that his words are being so twisted around. Lee is NOT a jerk and Lee only wishes Farrah the best.

Didn't watch the special but listened to Lee's comments. I heard short answers to try to head off more questions that he didn't care to answer. The reporter mentioned the lawsuits and stuff and that is when Lee said it was overdone. That could be taken so many ways-perhaps that the attention to the lawsuit is overdone or that he would have personally taken a different approach to the issue. I don't think he is required to show allegiance to her or her to him for that matter. Their marriage was their business and I'm sure fault goes both ways. Lee may have been physically abusive to her (I was little in the 70's) but Ryan hasn't exactly treated her with respect. Bottom line is that Farrah chose to do it and it was her right whether anyone agrees or not........

Bandit you may have been little in the 70s but that makes you at least 31 now and as such a certain maturity should apply to your comments. Yes, even on TMZ!

THERE HAS NEVER, EVER been any suggestion that Lee was abusive to Farrah – not from the press, not from gossip and not from Farrah. To carelessly suggest he was when there is no evidence is totally irresponsible and very unfair to the man.

Wow Lee Majors, who knew you would make Ryan Oneil look so good. For a beautiful woman to share her battle with ANAL cancer with the world took real nads. It was a gift, and if cancer was too ugly for you, well good thing she had a real man with her at the end.

Farrah was in reality a no talent blonde bimbo; much like Marilyn Monroe(aka Norma Jean). Both were packaged bottled blondes made by Hollyweird. If Lee got her into show biz, great, but she did dump him for a no talent minor actor, Ryan O'Neil who has made a career out of being Farrah's bf. Farrah's son is deservidly in jail, as is that druggy Douglas boy. Both got their due punishments.

Probably the reason why Lee Majors couldn't watch the Fawcett video is that he feels guilty for her drug addiction---just like Brown did to Whitney Houston. Lee Majors used to have big cocaine pool parties at his home back in the 80's.
