Brandy Settles Fatal Car Crash with Victim's Kids

Brandy We've learned Brandy has just reached a settlement with the kids whose mother died in the singer's 2006 car crash.

Awatef Aboudihaj's two children will receive a total of $600,000 -- $300,000 each -- according to court documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court moments ago.

Aboudihaj died in 2006 after her car was struck by Brandy's Range Rover near the interchange of the 405 and 101 freeways in Los Angeles.

Her husband, Marouane Hdidou -- who has yet to settle with Brandy -- rejected his part of a $1.2 million settlement offer in February.

31. Pricless: Read up on the story before you put in your 2cents.. you said it yourself, "she was PROBABLY" this or that.. well check the facts first. It was a multi-car accident on the 405, it happens everyday on that freeway. If she was clearly at fault then I'd be the 1st to say payup but she wasn't.

33. I 100% agree with #13 Priceless. If she slaughtered my mom she would truly regret every having bought a car. I understand accidents happen, but I have never smashed into a car so hard it took someone's life. And yes, people can get millions from a party who does that - it's called INSURANCE. It's not like any of this money is coming out of that girl's pocket. Screw Brandy, all she gives those kids is 300 for no mother. That's a crock.

36. Brandy Crash -- Dead Woman at Fault?

Posted Dec 26th 2007 11:49AM by TMZ Staff

TMZ has learned the hang-up in deciding whether to file vehicular manslaughter charges against Brandy is that Brandy may have been a victim, not a culprit.

A CHP source tells TMZ the woman who died in the car accident involving Brandy actually struck the vehicle in front of her before Brandy made any contact. The law enforcement source says Awatef Aboudihaj, the woman who died, struck the car in front of her -- which was going 65 mph, and then slammed on her brakes. We're told the sudden stop caused Brandy to hit the dead woman's car.

What's more, L.A. County Coroner spokesperson Captain Ed Winter tells TMZ that toxicology reports show Aboudihaj had "slight traces" of marijuana in her system at the time of the crash.

The L.A. City Attorney has until the end of the business day on Friday to decide whether to file criminal charges against Brandy -- that's when the one-year statute of limitations runs out. Sources tell TMZ there is significant division in the City Attorney's office, and a decision still has not been made. The problem for the City Attorney: if they file manslaughter charges, they have to prove Brandy did something negligent -- and we're told that could be difficult if not impossible.

Stay tuned...

39. Here is a posting from the LA TIMES. The car Brandy hit had just been in a accident and it was a chain reaction collision..
This "Husband" is just seeing $$ signs!

Brandy, the 27-year-old former star of the TV comedy "Moesha," was not injured but the driver of the car she struck with her 2007 Land Rover in the Dec. 30 crash died, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, a married mother of one, CHP spokesman Leland Tang said.

The accident occurred on the northbound 405 Freeway, just south of the 101 Freeway.

No charges or arrests have been made in connection with the accident, and no formal determination has been made about what caused the crash, which was first reported by the celebrity news website TMZ.com.

Tang said there was no evidence of "wanton disregard" of safety by Brandy and that, if any charge is eventually filed against her, it would be no more than a misdemeanor count. He said she stopped at the scene and fully cooperated with officers.

Tang said that neither the performer, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, nor other witnesses realized the severity of the injuries to Aboudihaj in the chain-reaction accident.

A statement issued by Brandy's publicist said: "She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased."

The singer-actress was alone in her vehicle and no alcohol or drugs were involved, Tang said.

Brandy told officers she was driving about 65 mph before the crash.

41. 34. Cali two wrong don't make a right.... So if the lady suddenly stopped her car then the idiot behind her should have been paying attention and that idiot was Brandy.

you have the whole story wrong, you need to do some research... Brandy was driving her 2007 Land Rover
at 65 mph and did not notice that cars in front of her had slowed considerably. We're told Brandy's vehicle struck a 2005 Toyota. The Toyota then hit a 1989 Toyota. The 2005 Toyota then slid sideways and hit the center divider. As the 2005 Toyota came to a halt, it was struck by a 1988 Acura

Hold the block on money flow
Move it into joint escrow

45. even if she settled for each child at 300K each and a million for the dad, that is a drop in the bucket for brandy. i bet she lives in a 10 million dollar home at least. non-celebrity people have insurance on their cars so in case they have an accident they can get sued. also check your insurance policy for underinsured motorist. get extra on that because alot of people have insurance but not enough.
