I want to say, for those who are insisting that someone else would have had to have tied his hands behind his back (if his hands were indeed tied behind his back), it, in fact, is entirely possible to tie your own hands behind your back. Anyone into that sort of thing would sooner or later work out how--I speak from experience. (I'm not into the asphyxiation angle of it, but we all got our stuff that gets us going. It's a shame he died, but what he was doing, if it is in fact what he was doing, wasn't shameful.)
