Chaz Bono's Only Regret

We know a lot more about Chaz Bono's decision to become a man, and there's one thing he wishes he did differently -- that he had done it sooner.

We broke the story on Thursday -- that Chaz was changing genders. Now we know a lot more.

-- His partner of several years is totally cool about the change, and both of them say it will not alter their relationship. By the way, the partner -- Jennifer -- is hot. She has dark hair, she's around a size 2, and on and on.

-- The process has been going on for a while now. Chaz is taking hormones. As for when he's having the breasts removed -- no date has been set. That operation typically is the marker when judges allow someone to legally change sexes.

-- Cher has known about this for a year.

-- Chaz underwent a tremendous amount of psychological counseling before beginning the physical process of transitioning.

-- Chaz has considered himself a man for as long as he remembers.

-- As for wardrobe, we're told Chaz doesn't think a lot will change because he's been wearing mens clothing for a long time.

62. J>J, remember Chaz isn't into guys so don't flatter yourself. No one wants to look at your private. Other than that, it's doubtful you'll be sharing the same restroom with Chaz. But if you do, remember you can always walk out the same way you walked in.

63. Why is everyone calling her a SHE? She will always be a she no matter what she cuts off or has added. This girl just has psychological problems and will never be happy no matter what she does. Personally I am getting tired of hearing about all the Gay and Bi stuff that is everywhere-people are just not right in the head anymore

67. I feel bad for Cher. She and Sonny were so ecstatic about their cute little girl when she was born. I think no matter what Cher is still going to be very devastated by all this even if she does comment about this change and stands behind her.

68. This article is wrong, she's decided not to change her name after it was pointed out that Chaz was the name of the blonde preppy jerk in Rodney Dangerfield's movie Back to School!

She went to her number 2 choice and is now calling herself Lou Pearlman.

A new book by Chastity Bono, the openly lesbian daughter of the singing couple “Sonny & Cher,” provides the latest evidence that homosexuality is rooted in dysfunctional households and seduction/recruitment — not genetics. In The End of Innocence, Chastity writes graphically about her (willing) seduction by longtime family friend Joan, a 40-year-old lesbian who became her lover. The now-deceased Joan (to whom Bono dedicated her book) was a close friend of Cher, who as a star was often absent from the home. Chastity, writes that she was 18 at the time of her first sexual encounter with Joan. In a previous interview, she said that she had a childhood “crush on her … I was always kind of flirty.”

The following are quotations from Bono’s book The End of Innocence:

During my years in Manhattan, Joan remained a constant in my life, as both a friend and a confidante. We’d talk on the phone often and hang out together during the summers I spent in Los Angeles. It wasn’t really strange that I wanted to hang out with someone so much older…. (p. 10)

My mom wasn’t always around, since she was working, so Joan sort of filled in that gap … I just focused on the fact that I wasn’t getting enough attention, and I often felt lonely or abandoned. When I spend time with Joan, I felt like the center of attention… (pp. 10-11)

Joan knew I was gay, of course—she’d figured that one out pretty quickly—and because she was older and more experienced, she gave me advice my peers couldn’t begin to offer. (I can even remember her girlfriend Leslie taking me aside once, when I was about fifteen, and telling me what to do sexually with a girl, because I was totally naive.) (p.11)

I knew Joan was a very sexual woman—so much more experienced than I. … (p. 78)

The following excerpts are taken from a 1995 interview Chastity Bono did with The Advocate, a national magazine for homosexuals:

Q: When did you first realize you might be gay?

A: As a kid I thought that I was a little boy. My dad kind of pushed me in that direction. He really wanted a son, and I was kind of naturally inclined to that. I hated wearing dresses. …

Q: You were 2?

A: No, I was probably 5. I especially liked it when they put me in clothes that matched my father’s.

As a little kid, I had crushes on girls. … My dad encouraged me to play football. He used to say that he wanted me to be the first female quarterback in the NFL. … I always had crushes on women who were friends of the family—older women that I remember liking, wanting to impress, wanting to be around. …

Q: Do you remember the first lesbians you ever noticed?

A: I think they were Joan and [Joan’s lesbian partner] Scott. Scotty was a friend of my mother for years. She’s an older woman. She’s kind of like my godmother. Joan and Scotty used to be a couple. … I don’ t think my dad was too happy about my mom hanging out with them. …

Q: When were you first attracted to Joan?

A: … in the 70’s…

Q: How old was Joan then?

A: She was my mom’s age, late 30’s.

Q: Did Joan have any idea what was going on with you?

A: She kind of figured that I had a crush on her. We became very close friends. I was always kind of flirty. …

Q: You told me that when you were a child, your father, not your mother, was the one who made meals and ate with you.

A: Yeah, well, my dad wasn’t as busy as my mom. … He had more traditional values and more time to spend, which was really nice. It’s hard to be raised by nannies and in chaos, and that’s what my mom’s house is like. It’s still like that. …

69. Forget Ms. Manners, I think the authority on when to call he/she/it a 'he' or 'she' should be the US military! What do you think the reaction would be if an 18 yr old 'male' decided he was really a she and therefore didn't have to register for selective service? Or if the draft were reinstituted for males only? I'll bet there'd be a passel of "Hey, I'm really a woman" revelations.

Or maybe the EEOC should be the judge--what do you put on your job application, and what if you want to file sex discrimination charges? Or getting government contracts for minority owned businesses? Many white males may benefit by calling themselves 'she' while still having the benefit of all their parts.

(I am of course not entirely serious, but it is food for thought.)

70. I'm sure Chazz has a beautiful girlfriend. WHY? Because Cher being the kind, sweet person she is financially $$$ supports Chazz/ Chasity$$ in a opulent lifestyle and they are all living in luxary with no financial worries like the rest of America.
No mystery there.
Nevertheless I hope all goes well for Chazz during his transition. He seems like a very likable guy.

71. I feel bad she she needs to go to such an extreme to be happy. I have always loved Sonny and Cher and when they would bring her on their show in the 70's it seemed apparent to me that she was greatly loved and adored by both her parents. Who knows what triggers people's issues, but she is obviously battling something that I know nothing about. I wish her the best.

72. She's not changing her name to Chaz b/c of the evil blonde preppy diver Character in the 80's flick Rodney Dangerfield's back to shcool. "Up yours Melon!"

Upset when she was reminded of the movie, she quicly decided on her number 2 choice to call herself: Lou Pearlman

After looking at her new look, its appropriate, next she'll start running boy bands and create a ponzi scheme

73. she will never be a he.

she was born a woman, with female body parts, a woman's DNA, and was raised a woman (who became a lesbian... but that's another story)

manipulating body parts in the end, adding fake body parts, removing real ones, and forcing the body to use more testosterone it didn't have...

that doesn't mean suddenly now you're a man. You're a fake man, a woman playing a man. that's basically all. She will always be what she was born, a she.

74.
I'd like to point out a couple of things--first off, TMZ says it "broke the story" on Thursday, which implies that they were the ones to first report it, which is hooey.

Secondly, TMZ felt the need to point out that the girlfriend, Jennifer, is "hot," which implies that TMZ thinks this should somehow be surprising. That is totally offensive.

Third, people who come to the decision to go through the process of gender reassignment do not do so on a whim, and certainly not because they have gained weight, as some ignorant posts have suggested. Being the child of such famous people only makes it all the more difficult because of the inevitability of the judgment , jokes, and bashing that some idiot members of the public feel is appropriate.

Finally, in terms of what to call Chaz (he or she), if Chaz has already begun living as a man, is already taking hormones, and has already been through psychological evaluations in pursuit of gender reassignment, then Chaz probably already refers to himself as "he," which makes it appropriate for others to follow suit. Biological sex is one thing, but gender encompasses much more than that.

75. chastity bono is a female. A she. She was born a she and still is. It's llike, a man cannot be pregnant and have a baby. Only a female can do that. Get it right. That's one of the reasons why so many people have problems with "gays". All this non-sense about a male being pregnant etc.
