Lohan Investigated in Jewel Theft Caper

Lindsay Lohan is wanted for questioning in connection with a jewel heist -- and an expensive one at that.

Scotland Yard is investigating the disappearance of around $500,000 worth of jewels -- earrings and a necklace -- that went missing after an Elle magazine shoot ... and guess who was front and center for the shoot? Our freckle-faced friend.

Scotland Yard wants to question LiLo ...but they're quick to add others are being investigated as well.

Lohan's rep released this statement: "No one has contacted us yet, but Lindsay is happy to cooperate. She wants them to find the missing items."

19. Not surprising. She is a known thief. She stole thousands of dollars worth of clothing from an aquaintance's apartment and stole a fur coat at a party and was actually photographed wearing it a week later...Lohan returned the coat after being publicly accused but it was torn, dirty and stank of smoke.

23. LiLo should get together with Wynona Rider; they could swap trade secrets about shop lifting! This story doesn't really surprise me...drug and alcohol abusers will stop at NOTHING to get money for their "fix". Maybe Sam got tired of constantly doling out cash and Lindsay suddenly developed sticky fingers for jewelry. She's probably been spreading her legs for money, as well.

Girl needs to get herself to REHAB.
