Anna Nicole SmithThe judge who cried a river during the hearing over Anna Nicole Smith's burial is now being sued for allegedly swindling an old lady.

83-year-old Barbara Kasler just filed suit, claiming Judge Larry Seidlin -- one of her neighbors -- took advantage of her poor health for his family's personal gain. Seidlin was cleared in a criminal elder abuse investigation but now the old lady is mounting a civil attack.

Among the allegations:

-- Seidlin's wife Belinda talked Kasler into selling the Seidlins a $600,000 condo for half the price.

-- Belinda convinced Kasler to sell her a parcel of land worth $50,000 for only 10 bucks.

-- Kasler wrote the Seidlins over $500,000 worth of checks, including $130,000 to help pay off their mortgage, $100,000 to buy a new house in Pennsylvania and $54,260 for their daughter's tuition.

The lawsuit claims Seidlin was licking his chops after finding out the old lady was loaded. The good judge has denied all the allegations.

16. Why would the judges wife bilk the older women? Was it a case of living beyond their means and or just being greedy.
The older lady is right to go to court and claim her money back. Wouldnt you.

What on earth are you two babbling on about? As of now, all we know about this case is that someone claims Seidlin did this to her. Interestingly, the police/DA did not feel her claims were credible enough to prosecute. So we are simply left with accusations. The trial, if it goes that far, will get to the truth. All I was saying is that, as far as the condo goes, what a house or condo was worth a few years ago may only be half that now, especially in Florida. So it is POSSIBLE, not certain by any means, that if they bought her condo for $300k it may have actually been the market price.

But by all means go on bashing me for not instantly ripping into a guy based merely on accusations.

22. Not surprising. Preying on old ladies to undersell their real estate is a typical swindle.

Judges are not the honorable people the public believes. It is frightening. Judges are just lawyers in a robe. There is so much day to day abuse by judges.

As another comment said, corrupt or even just unprofessional judges are one of the worst things that can happen in society. The courts are a catch-all for disputes and the ONLY thing preventing total anarchy. If the courts break down, or if the public begins to understand the courts are a sham that exist to serve the needs of the wealthy, powerful, and judge's personal pecadilloes, then society breaks down.

Swindlers know the chances they will be sued are decreasing because of the cost of lawyers, and therefore swindlers are taking bigger and bigger criminal chances. People in trusted professions like judges, doctors, etc. think they are protected by a perceived "good reputation" so they can get away with more because no one will believe the are swindlers.

It is the worst when professions people trust, and are supposed to be honorable, are swindlers. Judges, doctors, lawyers, etc. Don't believe the cliche that there are lots of medical malpractice lawsuits. Fact is, doctors, lawyers and other lobby groups have the court system so locked up in their favor, it is very hard to sue.

Do not sign any mandatory arbitration agreements with anyone. If your doctor presents you with one, and many do, decline it. Doctors and companies who don't require arbitration are the ones with the least complaints so that may be a good sign if they don't ask you to sign one. Most will continue to treat you, and if they don't you should file a grievance with your insurance co. Non-insurance doctors won't want to lose the cash business. If they insist that you sign, that might be a red flag that they've had many complaints/lawsuits, etc.

Lawsuits should be a last resort, not a first resort. There needs to be greater accountability and regulation of trusted professions so it doesn't get to a lawsuit.

23. Okay, Medley, I will. You dumbass, dim-witted, drool-drippin' sputnik... this is a story about a "judge" who we already know to be "insecure" emotionally and for all intents and purposes unstable. I ask you... would you want your life put in his hands? No... didn't think so.
Given the nature of this unbalanced Dufass... who has tried to expolit Anna's trial for his own profit (TV appearances and failed show idea) the only conclusion we can come to is... string him up without a trial.. it's The American Way (certain states).
And all you can deduce and or surmise from this data is the possible depreciation of real estate values in Florida? My God...

If you knew anyhting about real estate values in Florida... you would know that they crashed long before the current eco-meltdown... Floridians were getting foreclosed in droves way back in'05... Hurricanes and Eco-slowdowns were have been killin' Florida real estate for at least five years... great time to buy though.
