What's Better Than One 9/11 Hero Dog?

Four 9/11 hero dogs!!!

Trakr 911 dog

Trakr, a K9 police and search and rescue dog who was credited with locating the last human survivor of 9/11, was recently cloned as part of BioArts' Golden Clone Giveaway. Trakr's owners are being presented today with four perfect (and not at all creepy) clones of Trakr, who sadly passed away in April.

Curious how it was done? To clone Trakr, Dr. Hwang Woo-suk and his team replaced the genes in canine eggs with genes from Trakr, stimulated the eggs to spur them to develop into embryos, then transferred the embryos to dogs who served as surrogate mothers.

Mother Nature would be proud.

48. adorable puppies. and yes, there are many dogs (and cats) that are in shelters who need homes but obviously the owners wanted this done and who are we to judge them

50. Are you effn' kidding me? I know how hard it is to lose a pet (I've had about a zillion), but these owners need to realize that their next pet will be just as beautiful, loving, and perfect as Trakr. Am I the only one who feels that cloning could become the latest thing in bereavement?

51. ANOTHER WASTE OF LIFE. SO WHAT, THEY DO THIS BECAUSE THEY CAN ? AND ALSO THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF DOGS AS WELL AS CATS WHO ARE PUT TO DEATH EVERY YEAR BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOMES. BUILD A MEMORIAL, DON'T BRING IN MORE PETS WHO MIGHT END UP UNWANTED AND DUMPED AT A POUND TO DIE.
AND EVERY ONE OF YOU OUT THERE WHO LETS THEIR PETS HAVE LITTERS....EDUCATE YOURSELVES. IF YOU LOVE ANIMALS, THEN GET THEM SPAYED OR NEUTERED. OTHERWISE, YOU CONTRIBUTE TO ALL THE VERY SAD DAETHS AND ALL THE SUFFERING.
