Daryl Hannah Faces Off with Police

Daryl Hannah has a smooth, flawless, gorgeous face that can stop traffic -- and today she got arrested for just that.

Daryl Hannah

The 48-year-old "Clan of the Cave Bear" star, a NASA scientist and their ragtag group of protesters were arrested in West Virginia after blocking off a road leading to a coal processing plant in Raleigh County. Hannah's crew was protesting mountaintop removal mining -- a type of mining criticized for allegedly harming the environment.

30 were arrested in total and booked on misdemeanor charges of obstruction and impeding traffic.

17. Whoa. Daryl looks like Rocky Dennis from that movie The Mask. I'd rather look like a wrinkled older person than a stretched freak that scares puppies and makes small children cry.

18. Hey people, get your priorities straight. You should be much more concerned with mountaintop removal than Daryl Hannah's appearance.

Here's just one of many web sites with good info: http://www.ohvec.org/galleries/mountaintop_removal/007/

19. Go Daryl!! It is nice to see a celebrity getting involved and even being arrested for trying to make this world a better place, wish more people were like her. I can't believe the nasty comments from everyone-this woman is trying to make a difference, what have you done today??!! And as for the comments on her looks-grow up people-she probably looks better than you do on your best day.

21. She's such a brave soul, someones got to stand up for those poor mountain tops. Iran's protestors have nothing on our Hollywood protesters. With everything that's going on in the Middle East it's hard to stomach these freaks of nature.

22. Doesn't anyone find it funny that Daryl wants to preserve a natural environment yet she can't keep herself natural?

23. Geez, she was so pretty--"Splash", "Summer Lovers"--she really is scary now. And whoever made the remark about her being a nature lover and then screwing up her face--you're right. Maybe she's an activist now because she realizes she f-ed with nature and made herself look bad. That's never a good thing. A damn shame, if you ask me. A damn shame.

25. I also live in WV and I think these protests need to stop. These people do not understand that the majority of their electricity comes from coal. Aside from that, they are trying to put thousands out of work in a state that does not have many well paying jobs other than the coal industry. Only a handful of the protesters arrested in the past few weeks at various events are even from this state. I'm not going to fly to California to complain about things there. These people need to worry about what is going on in their respective states and communities and let us worry about things here.

26. "Mountaintop removal mining is a form of strip mining in which coal companies use explosives to blast as much as 800 to 1000 feet off the tops of mountains order to reach the coal seams that lie underneath. The resulting millions of tons of waste rock, dirt, and vegetation are then dumped into surrounding valleys, burying miles and miles of streams under piles of rubble hundreds of feet deep. Mountaintop removal mining harms not only aquatic ecosystems and water quality, but also destroys hundreds of acres of healthy forests and fish and wildlife habitat, including habitat of threatened and endangered species, when the tops of mountains are blasted away.

This practice also devastates Appalachian communities and cultures that have existed in these mountains for hundreds of years. Residents of the surrounding communities are threatened by rock slides, catastrophic floods, poisoned water supplies, constant blasting, destroyed property, and lost culture. As a result, many have been fighting the practice for years. Mountaintop removal mining takes place in many states in the Appalachian region, including West Virginia, Kentucky, southern Virginia, and eastern Tennessee."

29. LOVE THE CLEBRITIES WHO LIVE IN THEIR CASTLES ON THE HILL AND GO AFTER COAL MINERS WHO CAN BARELY GET BY. GET A LIFE AND PROTEST SOMETHING VALID LIKE CHILD ABUSE, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, ETC.

30. FOR ALL YOU AGAINST MOUNTAIN TOP MINING - YOU CARE MORE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT THAN HUMAN BEINGS AND THEIR JOB SECURITY! COAL MINERS WORK THEIR BUTTS OFF TO PROVIDE ELECTRICITY FOR MEAGER INCOMES. IF ALL YOU ENVIROMENTALISTS WANT TO STIP USING ELECTRICITY THAN YOU HAVE A SAY BUT NO, LIKE MOST CELEBS, YOU LIVE IN BIG HOUSES USING TONS OF ELECTRICTY YET HAVE THE NERVE TO PROTEST SOMETHING SIMPLY BECAUSE IT MAY BE BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. YOU ARE THE BIGGEST HYPOCRITES!
