Travolta Treks to S. Africa for Jett

Now we know where John Travolta was when his new movie "The Taking of Pelham 123" was in junket mode -- in South Africa, honoring his late son, Jett.

Travolta rented out the entire Eagles Crag Lodge on the Shamwari Game Reserve earlier this month for his family and close friends, according to hotel staff.

John and his family often traveled there on safari -- something his son truly loved. Someone from the staff said John made it clear he was there to honor Jett.

31. Jett is much better off than any of us who are still here. He was actually chosen to be with God and not to have to endure any more pain and suffering due to earthly illnesses. I don't know what Scientology says about an after-life or if anything can truely comfort a parent who has lost a child, but my belief has helped me deal with the losses I have had in my life.

34. When I was little, I used to get mad because my mother never put my picture on her station at work. I never understood that until I was older. I thought she would happy to show me off. She was a hairdresser and she never knew who was walking through their salon at any given moment. She didn't want everyone looking at me or knowing who I was. As a parent, she had the right to control my image.

Jenny McCarthy's son Evan is autistic and she has been a huge force in educating us about the condition. I have a great deal of respect for her because of it. The Travolta's are not obligied to share any aspect of their son's life with the public. Selfish or not, it is their perrogative.
Rest in peace, sweet Jett.

36. The Travoltas were obviously doing whatever was required to treat Jett. He simply had a drug-resistant form of epilepsy. At some point, side effects outweigh benefits, and it's a very individual thing deciding when to withdraw from one drug (and for how long) before trying another (you can't just instantly bounce from drug to drug safely, often the first drug has to clear from the body first and a rest period is needed). Sometimes there just might not be any safe drug to try anymore. They did what they could to monitor him also, but there is no evidence that even closer monitoring would have kept him alive longer.

Nobody outside the family had the right to know anything about the situation, so I don't care what they called his disorders in public or amongst their co-religionists to keep the ultraorthodox off their backs. They obviously knew exactly what was going on themselves and had him under appropriate medical care. The pictures we've seen of Jett and his family show a child who was well-loved, nobody was "ashamed" of him. Honestly, not everybody wants to constantly parade their kids in front the pesty paps' cameras - especially if the kid would be bothered by it (which an autistic child would definitely be, they have trouble with such stimuli - I'm sure that was also why Jett wore earphones a lot, to block out the bothersome external noise).

37. It makes me cringe how people can be so down right mean. The Travoltas lost their beautiful young son and monsters can come on here and post their nasty, vile messages...it's just sickening.
There can be no greater pain than losing a child..I don't care if you have zillions of dollars or are dirt poor...the pain is the same.

38. They didn't hide him JANE DOE.............that is a moronic comment. How obvious are you people? The family had EVERY
right NOT to disclose any of his illnesses or show any pictures of their family if they didn't want to? You mock their sense of
privacy? You all need to get a life really,................
