Elton John Sings for Michael Jackson

Elton John was in the middle of his annual "White Tie and Tiara Ball" when he was rocked by the news of Michael Jackson's death.

elton john

We're told Elton is singing right now at the event and he's dedicated his song "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" to Michael.

Liz Hurley, Hugh Grant, Lily Allen, and Kelly Osbourne were at the party -- however several of the guests left once they heard about the news.

46. What ever happened to the presumption of "Innocent until proven guilty". Noone on here has any true idea of what happened between Michael and his young friends, their stories fell apart during trial and so the man was aquitted as he should have been. We will never know if there was any truth to the accusations, but we do know that there was not enough evidence to convict him of of the crimes he was accused of. His life was truly tragic from then on as he spiraled into his own personal hell from all the media attention, not for his grace, talent or iconic abilities, but because people love to hurl accusations at the famous. . He changed music forever, did uncountable philanthropic gestures and suffered from unbelievably low self esteem, thus the perpetual plastic surgery. When he was on top, everyone was there to take what they could, when he fell, everyone rushed to judgement and ridicule. Let the man rest in peace where he may finally come to accept himself, faults and all. No matter what you believe he did or didn't do, no one deserves such hatred and nasty comments. Can we at least remember that he had three young children and a family that loved him and is currently devastated at his unexpected loss? Do not show you ignorance by bashing a man you never even knew except through the media outlets, have some compassion for his children and loved ones. I believe the saying goes, "If you have nothing nice to say, just say nothing."

50. You people should be ashamed for attacking a man like Elton John! FYI...the profits made from the sales of the Princess Diana version of "Candle in the Wind" were donated to her charities. I am happy to say...I did my small part in purchasing the CD!! Elton and Michael were FRIENDS and I'm quite sure he was notified of his death as soon as possible. He dedicated a song to his FRIEND...what a wonderful gesture!! Rest in peace Michael...your troubles are now over.

51. A classic story of rise and fall--he rose high and fell far fast. He was on the brink of a $1B deal with Pepsi after Thriller and had the world at his feet and then he got a swelled head with everyone telling him he was God and he indulged his lust for children and got caught and that ruined him. I love his music--what a gift he had--but he was anchorless on a sea of fame of fortune, thinking that that constituted substance. It doesn't. I'll never forget hearing him make a statement after he got into the Guiness Book of World Records for Thriller. He said something to the effect that "now I've really accomplished something." Commercial success is nice, but it's meaningless and can be dangerous if there's no underlying integrity. Jackson equated his worth with his commercial success, and his life was spent pursuing that vain god. If he had had inner contentment he wouldn't have felt the need to change his appearance, experiment in dangerous practices, abuse children, etc. RIP Mike.

54. Quote "the profits made from the sales of the Princess Diana version of "Candle in the Wind" were donated to her charities." Actually, the profits from sales of the single were donated to charity. Profits from album sales and licensing, etc, went into fat Elton's fat pockets. Not to mention, to buy that PR would have cost a fortune. If you think Elton didn't make a bundle from Diana's death then you are very naive. And for the record, Diana and Elton were not friends, they were acquaintances... I dare say the same is true for Elton and MJJ. Cashing in on someone else's death is nothing short of sordid. He is a parasite, feeding off the fame of others, and their misfortune.

56. Wow, I was really thinking it was going to be "Candle in the Wind (Part 3)." Leave it to Elton John to take someone else's tragedy and use it for person gain ... again. Also, as other commenters mentioned, it seems unwise to sing a song that goes "Don't let the son [pronounced the same as "sun"] go down on me" given the pedophilia allegations against Jackson. Not exactly the most respectful choice.

57. THAT BLOODY SONG AGAIN, MAKES ME SICK, THE WORST THING IS THAT MOST OF POP AND ROCK SINGERS ARE OVER 70 YEARS OLD, SO BE READY TO ALL KIND OF RE-RE-RELEASES OF ELTON´S SAD SONGS IN THE NEXT YEARS.
ELTON WANTS TO BE SURE THAT SOMEONE SINGS FOR HIS OWN FUNERAL SOON.

59. I Love Elton John, he sang for Princess Di too. I would be just as saddened if he passed. We are blessed to have such awsome talents shared with us. My life has been personally touched by Michael's and John's music and dance. I had an opportunity to see the dress rehersal of Elton John's Red Piano at Caesars Palace (second row). I'll never forget, what a treat! People, the world needs to respect such angelic musical icons; they are very rare. Please read my book Essence of the Soul (avail. amazon.com and dorrancebookstore.com)

Its never been a better time to do some soul searching. Thanks Michal, I'll love you always. God Bless you all!
