Jacko's Death Grinds the Internet to a Halt

michael jackson's deathIn the moments following Michael Jackson's death -- so many people rushed to the Internet, that it practically stopped the entire WWW in its tracks.

Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, AIM -- just a few of the scores of major web sites bombed by a tidal wave of traffic. Most of the sites still worked, but the epically high traffic numbers caused them all to move at a snail's pace.

The last time the 'net had this kind of traffic -- Obama's inauguration.

63. People were reading this on Perez Hilton....

We knew something like this would happen!!
Michael Jackson was taken by ambulance from his Holmby Hills home to a nearby Los Angeles hospital on Thursday afternoon!!
Supposedly, the singer went into cardiac arrest and the paramedics had to administer CPR!!!
His mother is even on the way to visit him!!!
We are dubious!!
Jacko pulled a similar stunt when he was getting ready for his big HBO special in '95 when he "collapsed" at rehearsal!
He was dragging his heels on that just like his upcoming 50 date London residency at the 02 Arena, of which he already postponed the first few dates!!!
Either he's lying or making himself sick, but we're curious to see if he's able to go on!!!
Get your money back, ticket holders!!!!

66. I think it's crazy that you people (tmz) refer to Michael Jackson as "Jacko". Only here is where I see that, on the news they give him his respect. Have you looked up the term and are you aware of the meaning? It's terrible that even in his death the media chooses to be unkind. I long thought years ago when the media referred to him this way that it is deformation of character.

67. People need to remember that Michael Jackson was first and foremost a fellow human being...a very talented human being who was horribly exploited by his family particularly his father, for money. No one knows exactly what he went through as a child and beyond. It is obvious by his very publized surgeries, behavior, etc., that this was a very troubled human being. It is in very poor taste to talk so callously about someone who has lost their life, no matter the reason or what you may or may not think of the person. We have lost a very gifted part of our human family and we should show our respect and gratitude for the remarkable gift of music and the life that he shared with all of us. Shame on you people for being so rude!

68. Can't wait till they pass laws that will punish the rich and famous when they molest children, the way it is now society considers them heroes.
So sad, molest a child and become a hero, so sad indeed.

71. Tmz is so heartless. Keep it up jerks. I bet people will eventually get you taken off air. How can yall call a dead man names. All those accusations are bogus. And it's really sad that you people still cant see that. Everyone knows he was different but everyone really put that man through hell. It's really sad.

73. TMZ should cover how Perez Hilton originally claimed on his site that this was a stunt to get Michael Jackson out of more shows and then when news came that he was dead Perez quickly removed that from his site and replaced it with a page that claimed he was sad about it and that Michael Jackson was so amazing. Perez Hilton is a jackass and it should be plastered all over the news.

74. I feel sorry for his children and family. I despise the hypocrisy though - everyone waxing poetic about Michael Jackson when he became such a pariah in the U.S. over alleged child molestation that he felt he couldn't live here for several years. I know it's not in good taste to trash someone after their dead but I find it completely hypocritical in this country when someone famous dies, regardless of whatever they did when they were alive, they're cannonized. Hypocritical and ridiculous - typical American reaction, head in the sand.
