FAA Spokesperson Takes Back Billy Mays Quote

Billy MaysLaura Brown, the FAA spokesperson who gave TMZ this quote about Billy Mays -- "The passenger needs to wear a seat belt during landing and he didn't" -- now says she didn't say it.

She now tells TMZ, "At this point in time, we cannot have any idea who was or wasn't wearing their seat belt on the plane."

Mays was one of the passengers aboard a plane that landed roughly at Tampa International Airport yesterday. He told a local FOX affiliate he was hit on the head by falling items.

46. Now, how in the world would wearing a seat belt help when stuff falls on your head??? The seat belt connection is totally irrelevant.

47. " 8. Why would wearing your seatbelt save you from getting hit in the head from something overhead?"
I totally agree with #8.

FAA's Laura Brown=MORON for making such a stupid statement. Ever hear of "No comment at this time" ???

48. I'm still trying to figure out why it matters if he was wearing a seat belt... how does wearing a seat belt keep things from falling on you and hitting you in the head?!

49. After denying that a “Laura Brown” ever existed let alone worked there, the FAA declined to comment on the defective tire (presumably made in China) and shoddy overhead bin latches (ditto) that were both overlooked by the maintenance facility (presumably in Mexico).

Too bad government officials aren’t equipped with black boxes to record and track all their lies for analysis after they crash and burn.

52. Based on the information that I have observed here, Billy May probably died from a subdural hemotoma from the blow he sustained on the back of his head. He said he was fine, but there have been many cases where people say they are fine and look fine after a blow to the head (no matter how small or weak it may have been), but are actually dying slowly from internal bleeding in the brain. Even though he was not wearing a seat belt, that would not have caused, or prevented, the luggage, or whatever hit him, from falling and hitting him in the head. I am not against the airport, but they could be sued for not making sure the luggage was "tight and perfectly secured." (If people believe it was luggage that hit him, not saying that it was)

ok. this is nice to chat about, horrible to speculate, but we REALLY should wait for the official report!

53. Those A-holes killed Billy and tried to blame him for it.

Big time settlement for Billy's family coming soon.

54. well, which is it faa? how many different tales you gonna tell? who authorized the 1st statement from the spokesperson and then who authorized the most recent conflicting statement? the faa can't even get a cover story lie right...how are they gonna protect passengers in the sky?

55. Ok, so is TMZ still insisting that quote is accurate? Because the headline says "FAA Spokesperson Takes Back Billy Mays Quote" but the story says she claims she never said that. So who's full of crap?

My sense is TMZ screwed up here...I find it doubtful an FAA spokesperson would have ever said that, since there's no way she would have known who was or wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

56. OMG. I think someone should hit that ugly ass Laura Brown up side her. People like her don't care about anyone but their self and the only word that comes to mind when I hear her name is low life.

57. If the idiots at the airport had taken Billy to the hospital after he said something hit him in the head. He would still be alive. I'm sure his brain started to swell. Very common . I know it happened to my daughter. Thank you she was taken to the hospital ASAP.

58. TMZ, you folks better have tape of Ms. Brown making that statement. Otherwise, whoever quoted her should be looking for a new job. Sounds like your 'reporter' screwed the pooch.

59. Who's next?
Maybe if he DID NOT have his seat belt on; he could have jumped out of the way? Do they still sell that dent puller on TV?
