Dangerous Drug Found in Jackson Home

Michael JacksonSources tell TMZ an extremely dangerous and potent drug used for surgical anesthesia was found at Michael Jackson's house after he died ... and this may well be the drug that killed him.

We're told the drug Propofol was discovered at the residence. The drug is used to put people under anesthesia before surgery. It is an extremely powerful drug that is only available to medical personnel. As one source said, "There is no conceivable way this drug can be properly prescribed for home use."

The drug can only be administered with an IV. Interestingly, Propofol burns and the drug Lidocaine is used to reduce the pain associated with the Propofol injection. As we first reported, Lidocaine was found near Jackson's body.

One of the major side-effects of Propofol is cardiac arrest if it's taken in combination with narcotic painkillers, however, Propofol is so powerful it can stop someone's heart on its own.

A registered nurse has come out and said Jackson begged her for the drug Diprivan -- the brand name for Propofol. She says he needed it for insomnia but she declined to supply it.

Sources say the drug is so inappropriate and reckless for home use, if a doctor facilitated it for Jackson and it caused his death, he or she could be prosecuted for manslaughter.

46. Wow! I knew the poster of #41 was on to something big! (in the previous article about Katherine and the will, info about MJ begging a nurse practitioner for Diprivan, and her refusal, since it is an anesthetic only to be administered for surgery, etc.)

50. Dirpivan or Propofol indeed can cause cardiac arrest when going even slightly over the ceiling dose. It has an extremely tight dose range, but TMZ is completely out of line and wrong to say the drug can cause cardiac arrest when taken in combination with opiod painkillers. Propofol is commonly used in conjunction with Demerol, Fentanyl and other opiods because Propofol itself has no analgesic properties, that is, it does not relieve pain. It is used only to anesthetize patients, most commonly those that are not intubated. So TMZ, you need to clarify your inaccurate reporting, but you are absolutely right that if this was administered for reasons other than anesthesia (e.g sleep deprivation or drug dependance) the doctor who made available and administered, or both if not the same, should and will be held accountable for negligent homicide.

51. I noticed today on several tv shows one of the attorney's for Katherine Jackson gave Anderson Cooper a lecture on how to get off such subjects as this med and be more considerate of Jackson's legacy and honoring him. He repeated it several times on shows today, that this is all rumor, conjecture, etc. etc. Nothing like changing the subject, I guess.

I actually believe the nurse Lee who was on CNN with her story today. What would she have to gain by lying? Who wants notoriety? That is a negative thing.

52. Talk about a new kind of Russian Roulette......

IF Michael gave himself an injection, he deserves what he got. IF the MD injected it, he will go to prison for murder.

Either way, somebody F_____ UP BIG TIME!!!

53. However you cannot tell me any defense attorney wont bring up the fact that the "crime scene" (if it is one) was compromised when the LA cornorer and LAPD released the home to the Jacksons and they were in there.

Seems like a big screw up to me.

Bury the man and give the family some peace. If I read another crazy story about what he supposedly took, drunk, ate or saw which all conflict with each other I'll scream! His family does not deserve this from the media!

58. Gee, let's see. A presumably "licensed" doctor and nurse (are nutritionalists even licensed to provide RN home health care?) killing a famous patient. Don't you think they would say and do anything to cover their own a$$es?? No mystery here.
