Jackson Memorial Tickets -- Now a Worldly Event

Michael JacksonMichael Jackson is clearly the international star in death that he was in life -- the memorial lottery is now open to the world.

Initially, only U.S.residents qualified for the ticket drawing to score seats for Tuesday's Staples Center memorial. But now the folks putting it together have decided to open up registration to all earthly beings, saying, "Additional legal terms have been incorporated into the conditions of entry to allow non-U.S. residents the opportunity to register for the random ticket drawing."

The drawing closes tonight at 6:00 PM PT. Click here to register.

32.

If you get your tickets on Monday, how do you sell them on Ebay for an event on Tuesday morning?

With traffic people better be on the road at the crack of dawn

33. I'm sure that this is a way to keep the actual number in attendance down. Really, how many non-US residents are actually going to show up? You also have the idiots that THINK that they're gonna be able to scalp these. It might sound crazy but in reality it's a very smart move - crowd control wise and PR wise.

34. If I find out tomorrow that I have won, I will post the tickets on ebay. Some are already, prematurely, on ebay. In this economy, a lot of people will seize this opportunity. Moreover, it will allow those who actually want to go and can afford it (money and time-wise) to attend. I live in downtown L.A. and it will be interesting to see how this goes. On the one hand, it could be beneficial to Los Angeles, on the other hand, it could backfire. It all depends on how people act. If the Lakers winnng is any indication, I'd say we're in trouble, i.e., closing off streets because of mobs attacking cars, etc.

35. I have entered many times with the hopes of reselling any tickets that I win. Should be a great profit if I somehow get lucky enough to win the lottery.

37. This is poorly planned as was evertthing else attached to this whole sad event. I have no problem with it being opened to the world. but they should have had the funeral and then planned the memorial event. Maybe timed it with other events going on in the city. Allowed time for the people who win time to actually get to the event. There are going to be ticket winners with no way to attend and thousands without tickets pushing through roadblocks trying to get close to Staples. I live less than 10miles away in W. LA but I am staying away from the upcoming madness

39. to #5/CJ - I totally and completely agree with you about the income to LA. I sat in disbelief when I heard pro-term Mayor Berry say please stay home and watch it from your couch in the same breath she was saying the city couldn't afford the manpower if 750,000 showed up. The other thing I couldn't believe is them whining about lead time to arrange the event. You know LA is a huge city with frequent award shows and such, as well as the 500,000 impromptu celebrations last month from the LA Lakers win. So what ***I*** heard is ... our LA Lakers are more important to LA than Michael Jackson, the man known on every corner of the world and we don't want your money... duh!. What an idiotic statement.

I hope that all Jackson fans still arrive, line the streets from the cemetery to Staples, even standing single file from the cemetery to the ocean. What the heck, does anyone think someone could arrange a "hold your hands across LA" type ting.. a single line holding hands from his home in Encino to Neverland? Doesn't even have to be Tuesday. Could be for his birthday next month. Anyone????

#6 about TMZ saying they were the ones who said is was US only... it wasn't TMZ... it was stated very clearly on StaplesCenter.com that said "US residents only". Listen to your news this morning.... TMZ didn't make it up.

#13 - The Jacksons ARE payng for the world wide coverage of the funeral with all networks. Get real... we don't ask other stars' families to pay for the cities' services. Crap, they make a mint when a star dies in their city... tourists. And LA stands to make a MINT off Michael-- as does anyone else who even mentions his name. For heavens sake-- let's stop taking advantage of him. Wonder if you have the same belief if the city should pay for the LA Lakers' celebretary event. (And fyi-- it's built into LAPD's budget).

Sigh... everyone.. remember his beauty, his talent and surround his memory in white light. He should still be with us-- and will remain forever in our hearts through his music and his children.

43. You cannot compare the Jackson memorial with other events (esp. sporting) that usually take place. Not because he was a superstar, but because of the nature of the event and the MOOD OF THOSE ATTENDING.

( I am not comparing Princess Diana and Michael Jackson, I am comparing the events after their death.) I was in London when Princess Diana's funeral took place. It was amazing. It was a sea of people. You couldn't see the tarmac on the streets for miles. But the camaraderie between complete strangers was incredible, indescribable, almost illogical. Friends were made, number exchanged. My friend even lost her wallet during the mayhem and went to the nearest police station towards the end of the day. It was handed in. That NEVER happens in London - NEVER. Obviously 99.9% of the people there weren't hardcore Diana fans. But they appreciated what she had tried to do while she was alive and that she had gone too soon. People just wanted to be there. Perhaps most couldn't even tell you why exactly.

L.A. shouldn't be frightened of the fans. They are paying their last respects. I think London was truly impressive during and after the death of Diana and L.A has the opportunity to do the same. On a less emotional subject, the City of London must have made a mint. Flowers, esp. single roses were being sold at outrageous prices. Everything cost money and everyone made money. Everyone was happy, those who made money and those who chose to spend money on memorabilia or flowers.

If people don't want this to go ahead because of allegations that were made against Jackson in the past, say so. But claims it shouldn't go ahead because of potential anarchy or because the city will be left out of pocket, are almost certainly unrealistic.

44. Will It Be real Funeral with his body????????? Or Just a memorial without his body??????????

45. Well Candice, start raising hell. Your hero was a pervert. There were more than 2 complaints. Only 2 were willing to push it all the way to court. Being found "not guilty" does not mean innocent. It just means there was a jury filled with fans and people that were not smart enough to get out of jury duty. Guilty people are found not guilty every day, just like innocent ones are found guilty. He was talented, but a sicko. If he were "Mr. Jones" from down the block having little boys spend the night and sleep in his bed, people would be singing an entirely different tune.
