LAPD -- If You Don't Have Tickets, Don't Come!

The Michael Jackson memorial in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday is expected to draw a huge crowd, but the LAPD is trying to talk people who don't have tickets out of coming.

Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell addressed the press today and reiterated time and time again that people who aren't lucky enough to win the drawing for tickets to the memorial should just stay home and watch it on TV -- or (CHEAP PLUG ALERT) watch it live here on TMZ.

The LAPD will also block off several square blocks around Staples Center (see above) but may expand the area based on the size of the crowd.

McDonnell also said the LAPD is working with the Jackson family on a "private family function" at the Forest Lawn cemetery. He had no other details.

To help reduce costs, McDonnell said they would try and send as many cops home as quickly as possible -- crowd size willing -- and that cops making OT would be the first to go. So far, he said, no private entities have step forward to help alleviate the cost.

302. for those who won tickets, I just got back from going with a friend of mine who won tickets, We live in Los Angeles so travel is not an issue, we went to the Dodger's parking lot, got there about 9:45, not that many people in line, they do verify the name of the email and the ID you have to show match. you are given 2 tickets ( she got row 8 in Staples) you are given 1 wristband and ONE Wristband is put on there and you are advised you are not allowed to remove it if you want to be able to attend the memorial. the whole thing took about 15 minuets. The actual giving of the tickets seemed to flow very well but I have a feeling that there are a lot of ticket winners who will not be able to get here today to PU their tickets, ( they have to be PU by 6 MP today), wonder what they are going to do with all the unclaimed tickets??

So far, NONE of MJ's fans or big buck friends have donated anything to defray city costs, even they have asked for

I bet the jackson family would give everything that they have to have there loved one back. obviously you people have never lost someone close to you. 310. The May Day Melee cost Los Angeles 13 million dollars and tarnished the reputation of the LAPD, no way a bit of OT compares to what could happen if a bunch of trouble makers show up. Remember the Lakers' victory, when a crowd looted and burned a store, destroyed a police car, and attacked a bus full of passengers?

This is going to be one heck of a riot. Hope the Jacksons enjoy the chaos they're gonna cause. They might want something on the scale of Princess Di, but this is LA. The crowds will go crazy, the police will be in riot gear, stores will be looted. That's how it is in LA.

311. I went to LA for the supposed memrial and precession. LA is making a whole lot of money off tourism. i know we spent alot!! RIP michael!! When will the media quit being so mean to him? The family should have found a way for all to attend a event!! The media lied about the services. We flew out to LA based on a story last week for several days that Jackson's funeral would be Thurs and Friday.
