LAPD -- If You Don't Have Tickets, Don't Come!

The Michael Jackson memorial in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday is expected to draw a huge crowd, but the LAPD is trying to talk people who don't have tickets out of coming.

Michael Jackson

Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell addressed the press today and reiterated time and time again that people who aren't lucky enough to win the drawing for tickets to the memorial should just stay home and watch it on TV -- or (CHEAP PLUG ALERT) watch it live here on TMZ.

The LAPD will also block off several square blocks around Staples Center (see above) but may expand the area based on the size of the crowd.

McDonnell also said the LAPD is working with the Jackson family on a "private family function" at the Forest Lawn cemetery. He had no other details.

To help reduce costs, McDonnell said they would try and send as many cops home as quickly as possible -- crowd size willing -- and that cops making OT would be the first to go. So far, he said, no private entities have step forward to help alleviate the cost.

47. It's not about the body, you sensationalist! Man, it's about mourning, showing respect in the public, it's about loyalty, support, and it's as near as it gets. It's not about his body at all. Plus, it is not even clear yet if it will be there or not.

48. It's my understanding that he (Michael Jackson's body) will not be at the memorial service for those who are wondering about that. On the flip side, what a perfect time for the family to have a quiet burial for their son, surrounded by those who should be there... It is perfect, the whole world would be be tuned into the TV, many fans would be in two buildings, many others are expected to be attempting to get in, Others attemtping to fly here from around the globe, Sounds to me like a perfect time to have the actual funeral service.

heck why don't they just broadcast it on the huge screens, and presume that fans will be respectful!! As for the Media, I hope this is what they decided to do!!

50. HEY, MARGE, LOOKS LIKE MOST OF US DON'T AGREE WITH YOU. THE FACT THAT THEY PAY TAXES DOESN'T MEAN EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD PAY FOR THEM WHEN THEY DIE. I PAY TAXES TOO, I'M SURE YOU DO AS WELL. PAYING "MORE TAXES THAN MOST PEOPLE" IS IRREVELANT. BY THE WAY, THE REASON THEY HAVE "PAID MORE TAXES THAN MOST PEOPLE" IS BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE US BUY THEIR RECORDS AND MAKE THEM RICH.

53. This whole thing has turned into a circus. The Jackson family, I'm sure, wanted to do want MJ wanted, which was to please his fans. But they should have had a private funeral, and then had a memorial later when everything died down. I live in California, but I'm sure glad it's not southern California. This is going to turn into pandemonium...the exact opposite of what MJ would have wanted. If I was a member of the Jackson family, I would be far, far away from the scene. Jackson lovers versus haterz....OMG what a mess.

57. To all, including those LA residents who are saying that LA shouldn't foot the bill. Ummmm, Michael Jackson paid his taxes to the state, in astronomical amounts larger than you yourself do. He has paid his dues-- he is dead. LA and CA should foot the bill! Besides, the taxes paid by the fans who are coming from out of the area will be paying taxes on food, drink, hotel, gas, etc. That will MORE than cover the PD's costs for making a fuss over blocking off the streets. They should have just stepped up and said ALL ARE WELCOME.

MJ Fans: Respect the law officers' guidance when you arrive. Don't riot. You are there to mourn. Make MJ proud and give him the biggest send off the world has ever seen and make it 100% incident free! No arrests. No tickets. Show the world his love is in each of us--peacefully.

59. I usually like Jamie Foxx, but his comment about "sharing" MJ with the world was not cool. Does he actually think MJ would have espoused to this line of thinking? Black people did not "share" him with the world, MJ shared himself with the world. Boycott Foxx? No. A stupid comment at an all black event? Yes.

60. Go there, everybody! Don't let anyone talk you out of it. It's ridiculous! California is broke -- so what? What does a broke state have to do with the death of a man, Michael Jackson? They can't forbid us to anticipate, to mourn. This ain't 1984, this ain't dictatorship. Yet another reason to go. Let's make this the biggest memorial in history of mankind. Let there be justice only once -- spread the word, tell the world, show the love, support, and respect for this man! Heading L.A.…
