LAPD -- If You Don't Have Tickets, Don't Come!

7/5/2009 1:27 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The Michael Jackson memorial in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday is expected to draw a huge crowd, but the LAPD is trying to talk people who don't have tickets out of coming.

Michael Jackson

Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell addressed the press today and reiterated time and time again that people who aren't lucky enough to win the drawing for tickets to the memorial should just stay home and watch it on TV -- or (CHEAP PLUG ALERT) watch it live here on TMZ.

The LAPD will also block off several square blocks around Staples Center (see above) but may expand the area based on the size of the crowd.

McDonnell also said the LAPD is working with the Jackson family on a "private family function" at the Forest Lawn cemetery. He had no other details.

To help reduce costs, McDonnell said they would try and send as many cops home as quickly as possible -- crowd size willing -- and that cops making OT would be the first to go. So far, he said, no private entities have step forward to help alleviate the cost.

SLYV1212, Firecracker and Any Other Whiners:
The LA police department budget includes funds for such an unplanned event. So, cone down off your throne. The problem is the LAPD ridiculous notion believing crowds will stay away just because the LAPD has asked the to. The LAPD and planner's of MJ's memorial should have looked to the funeral arrangements made for Princess Diana as their blueprint. The crowds will come regardless of any requests made by the LAPD. I only hope that the crowds will honor the kindness and love that Michael projected and tried to bring to the planet and will remain peaceful. A gathering of 100's of thousands of Michael's fans without incident or violence will be the greatest tribute tribute to the King of Pop they can give him..

I hate to say this - but what a perfect day - the day of Michael Jackson's funeral - for the terrorists to come!! A perfect day for one of those missiles from Korea to hit Hawaii. A perfect day for those who hate us to cause death and destruction because EVERY FRICKIN' NEWS STATION IS GOING TO HAVE COVERAGE OF MICHAEL JACKSON'S FUNERAL!!! Man, you couldn't pay me enough money to be in that crowd on Tuesday. The only saving grace is Michael and his music moved the terrorists, too, so they won't want to dirty the occasion by trying to kill anyone.

And I agree with so many - there are going to be problems, big ones.

Tiannia, your'e right, it IS difficult to wrap one's head around the thought of Michael being gone forever. He was always there all of our lives and seemed larger than life. I admit the hoax theories are a tempting way to deny that he really died. Losing Michael is more painful than any other loss some people have encountered, like a family member, and they don't know how to find closure. That is why the memorial service is so important, and would be great if it was at a bigger venue so more people could attend. I just hope somehow Michael will be aware of the tremendous outpouring of love and affection towards him on.
Be at peace sweet Michael, thank you for giving all you had to give, and we'll love you forever.

ticket drawing was almost 3 1/2 hours ago. I live in the Chicago area... I have heard nothing..... IF anyone has received an email confirmation of a ticket win, could you please let us know the time you received it and what the email address that it came from is? Please and thank you.

My thoughts are that the LAPD have been nothing short of rude on tv.. it's just hell to have to do a job you are paid for now, isn't it?

Oh My Goodness

TONS of arabs are fans and Michael has lots of rich arab friends. I'm sure they will all be here on Tuesday as well to pay their respects.

agree with 101 ...please post if anyone gets an email on the tickets... "on or about" 3 1/2 hours ago was how the rules read ... so with all the changes and discouragement of the fans to actually come down - it would be helpful to know how the official email looks so we can stop checking to see if we "won" or whatever.

Just post if you actually do get something - someone has to come here if they get a winner - so I hope they post if it ends up in your spam folder or what???

Thanks,

4. THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY "PRIVATE ENTITIES" EXPECTED TO HELP DEFRAY THE COST. THE JACKSON FAMILY SHOULD PAY THE ENTIRE COST OF THIS "SHIN-DIG". ANYONE ELSE HAS TO PAY EVERY DIME FOR THEIR FAMILY MEMBER
TO BE BURIED, NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR EXTRAVAGANT THE FUNERAL. THE TAXPAYERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ABSORB ONE DIME, NOR SHOULD THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES. THE FACT THIS GUY IS A MEGA-STAR DOESN'T ENTITLE HIM TO A TAXPAYER FUNERAL! IF PRIVATE ENTITIES AND/OR INDIVIDUALS WANT TO DONATE, THAT'S FINE OTHERWISE, THE COST SHOULD BE THE SOLE BURDEN OF THE JACKSON FAMILY.

AGREE! Taxpayers shouldn't foot the bill that this will cost an already strapped for cash city!!

And the MAYOR is again on vacation! Does he ever work????

Someone opined:

Everyone thinks I'm absolutely nuts, but my gut feeling is that MJ is not dead.

Also see: 2 + 2 = 5.

And so the Elvis-ification of Michael Jackson is well underway.

Next up: MJ will perform at his own memorial service.

By 2010, mental health professional will have created a name for a mental illness based on the patient's belief that Michael Jackson is still alive.

Also, tune in to MJ's weekly radio show entitled "This Is It", broacast live from Uranus.

What's that sound you hear all over the land, if not the world?

It's the sound of fake tickets being created and sold at a premium!

The city of L.A. may not profit, but SOMEONE will.

Suckers.

People! LA is making a ton of money off of this, it's called SALES TAX. Any sales, business of any kind (not the stupid t-shirt guy's/chump change) is TAXED!!!!!!
DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU LA WON'T MAKE A PROFIT. They are just overwhelmed and under prepared as usual, not to mention the ridiculous crime scene work repeated at Jackson's home just like O.J.'s invenstigation. Business as usual for LA. Dah what do we do now? We have to work? Ah? Dah? Idiots!
MICHAEL JACKSON MADE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IF NOT BILLIONS FOR CALIFORNIA IN SO MANY WAYS AND HE PAID HIS F@*$@*$ TAXES. SO SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!
