MJ Memorial Donations -- Next to Nothing

The city of Los Angeles has only received $17,000 of the $1.4 million it cost to put on Michael Jackson's memorial -- but it's not because MJ fans are cheap ... it's because of the complete failure of the official donation website.

MJ Memorial Donations -- Next to Nothing

The press release from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says, "The city's Information Technology Agency could not handle the high volume of traffic or adequately respond to receive contributions for several hours Tuesday afternoon ... for at least 12 consecutive hours Tuesday evening ... and periodically throughout Wednesday morning."

So Villaraigosa is begging MJ fans to go back to the website and cough up a donation -- but please, not all at once.

32. #16 is an idiot. They are not asking donations to pay for the funeral, they are asking to for donations to pay all the cops that had to work overtime in order to handle the crowds in several areas of LA.

33. I agree, the money should come from the Jacksons or the Estate to help pay for the costs,Not the fans..and some of you are right too, that the amount of people that it brought to the city helped also

34. If MJ opened so many doors for all these "now famous" people, why dont all those famous people make a donation. I cant believe that with so many celebrities saying how much of an inspiration he was to them, they cant all pull together and help pay for this. Its pretty obvious the Jackson family are broke, or they would have paid for this themselfs.

36. Yeah, maybe the mayor could ask one of his squeezes that work for Telemundo or Univision to make a plea also or maybe he could go to the welfare department or the emergency rooms and ask the illegals for donations too, god knows he doesn't want to do anything to get rid of them.
