MJ Memorial Donations -- Next to Nothing

The city of Los Angeles has only received $17,000 of the $1.4 million it cost to put on Michael Jackson's memorial -- but it's not because MJ fans are cheap ... it's because of the complete failure of the official donation website.

MJ Memorial Donations -- Next to Nothing

The press release from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says, "The city's Information Technology Agency could not handle the high volume of traffic or adequately respond to receive contributions for several hours Tuesday afternoon ... for at least 12 consecutive hours Tuesday evening ... and periodically throughout Wednesday morning."

So Villaraigosa is begging MJ fans to go back to the website and cough up a donation -- but please, not all at once.

571. I have tried many times to donate but still can't find out where to go to make a pay pal payment. If I'm having trouble so are other people. After awhile it will be old news. I'm tired of hearing the city whine about the cost of the funeral. Michael Jackson was a generous person and the entertainment industry brings much money to the area.

574. Why doesn't Viva La Raza ask the millions of illegals he welcomed over to donate?

575. How about remaking USA for Africa but call it, Jacksonaid? We are the World! Get some of his pals to sing a song and put out a CD and all the proceeds go to Los Angeles security.

576. This MICHAEL JACKSON fan (me) was and is more than happy to give...again. I was able to give before the system crashed. I have no problem with giving as I learned that in part from Michael. Michael has MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of fans...if each fan gave just a buck we'd wipe that debt out before the weekend. Problem was the servers couldn't keep up with the demand and therefore, crashed:

"The press release from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says, "The city's Information Technology Agency could not handle the high volume of traffic or adequately respond to receive contributions for several hours Tuesday afternoon ... for at least 12 consecutive hours Tuesday evening ... and periodically throughout Wednesday morning."

However, others & myself have again tried to donate again on the site. Yesterday the site said: "THANK YOU. DONATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED."

Today, there's not even a link to make donations. So the fans are more than happy to contribute to Michael's Memorial fund, it's the least that we can do for all he gave us. But now it's like our money isn't wanted.? So, what do you do?

The 1st link below allows you to click on the site that gives a link to donations. Once on that site, you are lead to the mayor's LA CITY site where the donation page "used" to show, but doesn't any longer.

I am more than happy to give more...as other MJ fans would...if they can set up a valid link for us to give again or inform us of other legitmate ways to donate specifically to the MJ Memorial Fund. Thanks.

577. In MY world, when a relative dies, that said relative usually has life insurance or the family pays for it.
We don't ask the city.
We don't ask for donations.
Who ever even ASKED for a public memorial?
Sounds to me like another slimy attempt to get free money.
By whom?
California, LA, Jacksons, etc...
I could go on & on but I loved mj too much.

578. Does anyone realize how much business everyone is making off MJ and how much they will make once they bury him and make Neverland some type of touring site. What the point of the LAPD doing the memorial if there going to bitch about it later. LA should pay, we pay for cops to sit around/ harrass people and they spent an entire day telling people not to cause problem at the memorial and there wasn't. Now they want us to pay. Just like the LAPD to be so damn cheap.

579. The reason it cost so much was not just because of the memorial service.

The cost of the police presence and city cutting off the freeway was due to the safety of the public. Because otherwise everyone would have descended on the freeway and caused a massive accident.

That part should be paid for by taxpayers. The city was acting responsibly.

The memorial concert itself should not have been free, unless all the people who worked on the event worked for free (which they can't have, or the cost would not be so high).

Any other type of huge event the attendees would be expected to fork out. The Jackson family didn't think it through when they decided to make the tickets free. It wasn't practical. I suppose they feared people would think they were profiting.

The tickets work out at $82 btw.

Some people paid $7000 for a ticket so $82 would have been a bargain.

582. Last year the Japanese most fashionable singer, Ayumi Hamasaki released her new album and selected songs in three ways; the tape, the CD and the memory stick. The memory stick has been design in a special shape and has been decorated in the unique way in order to show the features of Ayumi Hamasaki; fashionable, unordinary and hot. I think that is a good way to release the albums, especially for youth and teenage. Nowadays less people use the media player to listen to the music, except some musicians or philharmonics, they use the hi-fi set to listen to the music. But the memory stick is quite a good way to carry the songs. We could bring it around; it is small in size and could play wherever has the computers. But I think the memory stick is more fit for the albums which the singer has passed away. As the singer had passed away, no more new songs will be brought out by that singer, and we do not need to buy another one or update the memory stick.
I hope that my idea for the Michael Jackson’s memorial album could be caught out. As Michael Jackson is one of the greatest singers for our century, it is certainly that we, his fans, should have concerts for him every year. And next year is the first anniversary; a special gift should be spread at that time. A memory stick which is full of his songs in a rubber wristband shape could be the best. We could wear the rubber wristband in the concert or anytime we want, and listen to the songs it carries with a computer.
I think it could be a cool way to commemorate him. The memory stick could be sold with the ticket for his first anniversary concert. As Michael Jackson is the one who was innocent childlike, he might like this idea.
