MJ Memorial Donations -- Next to Nothing

The city of Los Angeles has only received $17,000 of the $1.4 million it cost to put on Michael Jackson's memorial -- but it's not because MJ fans are cheap ... it's because of the complete failure of the official donation website.

MJ Memorial Donations -- Next to Nothing

The press release from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says, "The city's Information Technology Agency could not handle the high volume of traffic or adequately respond to receive contributions for several hours Tuesday afternoon ... for at least 12 consecutive hours Tuesday evening ... and periodically throughout Wednesday morning."

So Villaraigosa is begging MJ fans to go back to the website and cough up a donation -- but please, not all at once.

61. Am 61 yrs old retired, living on a fixed income. I sent a $10.00 check. I think if you can afford even a $1.00 it helps the city not the Jackson family. Good god people who live in LA, you should give if you can. No one is that broke you can't give $l.00. Alot of you waste that much on a beer. Instead of going to a movie this weekend why don't you contribute to the fund. You would be help out a city. I live in the south. Maybe my state might need some help down the line and I hope people won't be that selfish. Come on folks. You can give a $l.00. Can you imagine if everyone gives a $1.00 how much money they could get.

68. With California's current budget crisis , the estate of the deceased should be required to pay for all expenses just
like any other citzen would have to do. In the US we are all supposed to be equals but obviously if you are a celebrity the common tax payer should be responsible for your bills.

70. Absurd, you've got to be kidding - people are struggling to pay for food and this db wants money to pay for a multi millionaires funeral? OMG OMG OMG; I like MJ and all but it['s the families responsibility . . . just like the rest of us,.DON'T DONATE.

71. #33 Haven't you heard she is almost broke. Some of the comments are very sad to read. MJ gave to more charities than any other actor. Even in death he left money to 2 organizations. He was a man of the world. Many people came to LA from around the country and the world. So if you want to give fine, if you don't than shut up. We don't want to hear from your pie whole.

72. How much did Tony del barrio donate?

73. You know what, they should prove where all this money went for this funeral. They snubbed on-lookers out, and of the millions of fans that were expected, only a few thousand showed up outside. I think they hired, and overestimated after they had already warned no one to go. Let them eat the cost. Some of us fans had to stay home!! jerks

74. We as Tax Payers are NOT allowed to pay OUR bills with IOU's when WE can't feed our children, ourselves, or whatever ... instead, they will cut off the lights, and your kids will starve if you don't pay! So why the DEVIL would we give up our hard earned money to a state who keeps throwing parties that they can't afford to pay for?!?!?! CA is a state full of opulence, luxery, a CRAZY expensive state ... maybe if you didn't have so many "stars" owing MILLIONS in tax debt, this wouldn't have happened! Stop making your stupid budget crisis the whole Country's issue! Get someone else to manage, cause obviously, ya'll screwed the hell up! DO NOT expect ppl to PAY to go to a memorial service!
