Christian Bale Walks a Thin Line

Christian Bale is now frail.

Christian Bale
The 35-year-old -- who famously dropped 63 lbs for his role in "The Machinist" and then quickly bulked up for "Batman Begins" -- was spotted in Boston on Monday, once again working the heroin chic gaunt look to play drug addicted boxer Dicky Eklund in his latest film.

Hopefully an apple a day keeps the cinematographer away ... from walking into his scene.

63. " YO-YO" DIETING IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HOPE HE QUITS HARMING HIMSELF. IT'S REALLY HARD ON A PERSON'S HEALTH, AND CAN ACTUALLY MAKE YOU DROP DEAD.

65. Mr. Bale is the most committed and possibly the most courageous actor of our generation. He is the epitome of TALENT. He rises to any challenge. I loved him as Dieter Dengler in Herzog's masterpiece. I would like to see him in more romantic roles. I think he should reincarnate the always controversial "Heathcliff" in Wuthering Heights. He has a knack for characters who are complex and polyvalent. Heathcliff's "duality" would be challenging.
And as he grows older, I can visualize him as one of our greatest presidents-- Abraham Lincoln--in a biographical epic. He too was a complex man. I do believe Christian Bale could play just about anything. He has such range in his acting ability.
