Gov't Issues Warning Over Propofol

We've learned the FDA and CDC have issued a warning over certain batches of Propofol -- the drug found in Michael Jackson's home on day he died and the drug that may have killed him.

As far as we know the investigation is not related to Jackson, but certain lots from a pharmaceutical company in Irvine, Calif. have proven to be "tainted" and the company has issued a voluntary recall.

There have been no fatalities and so far the cases have only been reported in Florida, Arizona and Missouri -- but the CDC is urging physicians across the country to check their inventories because the product was distributed nationwide.

16. There is absolutely no way this could get any Doctor who was administering this drug in a home for non-medical reason off the hook. Are you people really naïve to think that? That is just crazy! I think there are some very valid points from LaToya’s Interview and I think we are going to start seeing a lot more of this. I believe there are going to be many court hearings and trials. Also on another note, has anyone read the blog that Deepak Chopra wrote on his site? It says and I quote “His children's nanny and surrogate mother, Grace Rwaramba.. I believe and have believed that she was Michael’s “secret girlfriend” and that she is in fact the mother of Blanket and Michael is his father. Wonder why no one is talking about that?? Here is the blog site..read for yourself. Also I find it interesting that Grace left only in December and 6 months later he is dead.

17. This product was being investigated on a separate case. Just because MJ had it in his position, does not mean it was this drug that killed him until the facts come to surface.

Sorry, but there's No WAY that 2 African-American people could have a child with hair THAT straight and THAT long. And if she were the mom, do you seriously think she'd leave blanket alone with Michael Jackson after what she witnessed? I think not.

20. Strict aseptic technique must always be maintained during handling. Diprivan Injectable Emulsion is a single-use parenteral product which contains 0.005% disodium edetate to inhibit the rate of growth of microorganisms, for up to 12 hours, in the event of accidental extrinsic contamination. However, Diprivan Injectable Emulsion can still support the growth of microorganisms, as it is not an antimicrobially preserved product under USP standards. Accordingly, strict aseptic technique must still be adhered to. Do not use if contamination is suspected. Discard unused portions as directed within the required time limits (see DOSAGE AND ADMINSTRATION, Handling Procedures). There have been reports in which failure to use aseptic technique when handling Diprivan Injectable Emulsion was associated with microbial contamination of the product and with fever, infection/sepsis, other life-threatening illness, and/or death.

Last night, the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration advised clinicians immediately to stop using propofol from two lots found to be tainted with elevated levels of endotoxin, a toxin made by bacteria. Regulators said Teva Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer, had begun a voluntary recall of the lots.

Several drug companies are licensed to produce propofol in the U.S.

FDA spokesperson Karen Riley said the agency’s investigators were currently at the Irvine, Calif., plant where the tainted propofol was manufactured. She was unaware of the size of the lots. At least 39 patients had been affected in Florida, Arizona and Missouri since May, Riley said.

The CDC’s lead investigator on the case, Dr. Arjun Srinivasan, said clinicians across the country are being urged to check their inventories because the product was distributed nationally.

Srinivasan said the agency received an initial report about the drug from an outpatient surgery center on June 29. The Missouri center had 20 cases of patients who developed high fevers and muscle aches shortly after receiving the drug.

The CDC put out word to the FDA, state and local health agencies and providers. That quickly led to discovery of the tainted propofol and Monday’s warning, Srinivasan said.

All patients known to have been affected have recovered, he said. However, at high doses, endotoxins can cause a sequence of reactions, beginning with fever and progressing to shock and death.

How ironic.

25. It appears now that this drug has come to the limelight, the FDA/CDC have dug deep in their files to find that there have been years of complaints against this drug.

Here is a link to the American Society of Health-System Pharmocologists dated June 15, 2007 (yes, 2007)

http://www.ashp.org/import/news/HealthSystemPharmacyNews/newsarticle.aspx?id=2593

and a link to the FDA directly dated June 2007

http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders/ucm125817.htm

...so this is not new news to the FDA/CDC. Also, does this explain what Jackson said to the nurse, Cherilyn Lee, when he called her on Father's Day saying he was "hot on one side, and very cold on the other"?

Anyone have pics of the lot numbers from what was in Jackson's home? Here is a Health Advisory by the CDC sent today.

http://thecalifornian.com/article/20090714/NEWS01/90714017/1002/Health+advisory++Clinicians+advised+to+halt+use+of+Propofol+from+tainted+lots

Discusses tainted lot numbers of Propofol and says "To date, all case-patients have recovered." (""all case-patients' being the operative words... sorry, no pun intended).

What do you think the odds of that would be? That kid looks NOTHING like EITHER of them. He may have some black in him, but he looks more like an Indian. She's not the mom, and Michael Jackson would have never used his own sperm, considering how much he hated his own looks.

29. Oh no! MJ was so thin (frail?) - if he received this tainted anesthetic - perhaps he couldn't fight off the bacteria toxin like those who recovered?
