Man Claims His Beat Nicked by Pharrell

PharrellEver heard of the band Geggy Tah? We hadn't either until one of its band members just accused Pharrell of some serious musical thievery.

In a federal lawsuit filed this week, Thomas Jordan claims the Pharrell produced track "All I Wanna Do (Feel Like Me)" is a total rip-off of the Geggy's '96 tune "Whoever You Are."

The suit alleges Pharrell produced "Feel" for the rap group The Clipse -- made up of Malice and Pusha T -- back in '97 ... but the song wasn't released until 2007.

Check out the two songs -- "Whoever You Are" and "Feel Like Me" -- and judge for yourself.

76. #6 speaks the truth. Also take into consideration that the album this song is from was shelved, that means that there was NO money made from the song or album. I think the overuse of samples/interpolations is one of the reasons why it was never released, because the neptunes have RARELY used samples in their productions since then.

78. Yeah, seems like Pharell totally ripped it off. Also, here's a more recent example no one seems to have noticed but really has me steamed. Everyone is raving about how great one of Papa Roach's new songs called "Lifeline" is. I very strongly believe that the main guitar riff in that song was taken from an older song of the band, Keane. That song is called "Everybody's Changing." It is off their 2004 debut album called Hopes and Fears.

Check it out. Let me know what you think.

79. If the blurb writer has never heard of Geggy-Tah, he should plead youth and say he's only familiar with the stylings of Hilary Duff. Otherwise, if he was of age in the 90s and didn't hear Geggy-Tah, he's a serious tool. The Geggy-Tah song was also on a Mercedes commercial in the early 2000s. The Geggy-Tah song is even on karaoke lists. The "Geggy" of Geggy-Tah, is Greg Kursten, the man behind Bird&Bee and a producer on the Lily Allen album.

80. wow check out the words*
Pharrell is singing to the
Geggy Tah "Whoever You Are"
melody Pharrell Hot lifted
{*esp. lines 3-8}

[& Pharrell sings}:
" All I wanna do is drink on the world
Layin' on the beach, takin' sips wit' my girl
Here they come tryin' to trouble me
I just giggle 'cause I know they don't see
Nor can they hear so they need to explain
It's piece on pieces, that's simple and plain
This is our ode to the galaxy
Niggaz in the wrong if you feel like me"

84. I've been a huge fan of Geggy Tah for years and have had the pleasure of meeting Tommy on a number of occasions. He is one of the genuinely nicest and most talented people I've ever met. I'll be a character witness in the trial if you need me, Tommy! It's pretty obvious that Pharrell ripped off "Whoever You Are." Tommy certainly isn't "coming out of the woodwork," either. Geggy Tah were pretty successful in the late 90s and were on David Byrne's boutique label Luaka Bop (surely someone at TMZ has heard of Talking Heads). As people have mentioned, Greg has been working with Lily Allen and is one half of The Bird and the Bee. Tommy has kept busy, too, and has worked with Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, among others. Believe me, he's got better things to do than just start frivolous lawsuits. I'm sure he wouldn't have bothered suing Pharrell if he didn't actually feel that he was being stolen from... and I think it's pretty clear that he was.

85. TMZ... "Man claims his beat nicked by Pharrell." Come on, you can do better than that! Shows how much you guys really know about music. Tommy Jordan of Geggy Tah was quite successful at that time and that video was on MTZ alllll the time!!
Imitation is the biggest form of flattery, but obviously PHarrell couldn't ask for permission. Make right by Tommy Jordan Pharrell.

86. This is a direct rip-off of Geggy Tah. This song was pretty much their only hit and they had (3) great albums on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. Greg and Tommy (hence, Geggy Tah) deserve a pretty penny for this blatant rip-off without even a nod to clearance issues.

89. He Probably Just Sampled The Song, It's a Very Common Thing In Hip-Hop Music.
