Jackson Book Deal -- Seizing the Moment

7/23/2009 3:19 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Jackson Book DealThe court in the Michael Jackson probate case just authorized the special administrators to enter into proposed book publishing agreements.

The deal on the table involves a reprint of Jackson's autobiography, "Moonwalk," with Shaye Arehart Books for U.S. and Canadian publishing rights, Michel Lafon for publishing rights in France, Heyne for publishing rights in Germany, and Heinemann for publishing rights in the United Kingdom.

UPDATE: 2:44 PM PT:
How's this for brutal honesty? The documents state, "The Special Administrators believe that it is in the best interest of the Estate for all book publishing agreements to be entered as soon as possible, as sales of the book and profits for the estate will be maximized the sooner the book is released due to the notoriety surrounding Michael Jackson's unexpected death and the resulting heightened demand for such products."

Story developing...

, kevin-- you're so funnnny!!! Paris Hilton really didn't have that much money to s tart with-- she came from the 'NOT SO RICH' Hilton branch.. the most she had was capitalised on her name which she exploited to the hilt !

now, folks, see why- Mj hired BRanca as his executor? who he met around the mid-80's? it's Branca's savvy with MJ's deals that established Branca --why, he was hired by other huge names.

MJ left Huge debts which needs to be paid off first before that eatate sees real earnings. This could take a few years. I'm sure Branca is highly capable of doing this. Why, he's s triking hard whilst the irons are HOT!
it's good the kids are still young as they don't have huge expenses yet for their upkeep.

this is all the more reason-- Katherine and her lawsuit are so redundant.. why, challenge a Will that's obviously drawn up well?!

The reason they doing this, ppl is so that his debts can be cleared up and if that means taking advantage of hte huge publicity he has now, then they are going to do it.The executors are kinda doing what Michael wanted them to do when he made the executors, maximize profits so that his children can benefit.I dont blame them,if the money is going towards the kids,no problem but if its to the money hungry family, well lets just say God bless those kids.

I think this is a very smart move on behalf of the administrators -- why should people who have written unauthorized biographies be making money off of Michael -- when his estate can make the money.

You people kill me acting like its a crime to make money from Michael -- the man is dead and I am sure he would be happy to know that the administrators are working to increase the value of his estate for his kids and his mom.

Stop begruding the people of making money!

This is good news, exactly how things need to be done in order to start sorting out all the debt. They cannot just sit and wonder what happens next. It may seem cold but one day MJ's kids will benefit from this and that is exactly what he would have wanted.

Let me educate you on the history of Lloyds, they were founded by a group of people who put up their own personal assets as calateral to cover the losses on written premiums. People were losing everything especially in the late 80's due to natural disasters and such, they started allowing llc to come in as partners. Just because you are "insured by Llyoys" it might not be the same syndicate that the person next door is insured with. Lloyds is a group of thousands of syndicates. This is a very abrided version of how Lloyds runs. It's not like Allsate or Statefarm.

Furthermore, Lloyds are are admitted companies in the states in which they operate but they are outside the rules of having to files their rates with the excess and surpluss lines laws. That being said they can charge anything for the premium and insure more things than domestic carriers.

Lloyds of London were smart enough to quit insuring ebay purchases a couole year back. Now you want me to believe they would cover MJ for death by drug overdose?? Get real!

Michael Jackson

I checked the website of Barnes &Noble and it is outrageous what they are asking for used copies of Moonwalk. The lowest price was around $250 and the highest was around $650. Fortunately I bought my own used hardcover copy years ago from this very website. It was a copy in excellent condition and I got it for less than $10. I am a self admitted MJ hater but I do try to read or buy every book published about him. Both good and bad.

FULGY

According to TMZ, that $17.5 million policy covered a possible drug overdose from Michael. But the Lloyd’s of London policy did not cover his death of natural causes!

Susan:

Yes, I believe they would have but like I said, there would be so many "clauses" that would give them an "out" and it would end up in court. Fighting a domestic carrier, IE Allstate, State fam, American Family is much easier than fighting a Lloyds syndicate. Remember lloyds is made of of many syndicates. The one who you have your jewelry insured with may not be the same that your next door neighbor is insured with. It's also much harder to fight them since the laws are much different with the excess and surpluss lines admissions...
