getting a sunburn is not a laughing matter, Statiscially, someone is diagnosed with skin cancer every 5 minutes. The more sunburns you have as a youth, the more your odds are upped, the more sunburns you have in general, the more your odds go up. Melanoma is an equal opportunity cancer-not just blondes and redheads, although they are the majority per the fair skin pigment. Tanning and burning is damage to your skin. see www.fda.gov and 'search' tanning, an article comes up, "No tan is a safe tan." I applaud the media for finally getting the word out on studies of tanning booths and the harm they cause, like cigs there is not control over their devasting effects. To have this kind of contest goes beyond entertainment. I hope these people do not acquire skin cancer and take the winnings for treatment. Once a cell evolves into a malignancy and becomes a tumor it readily can grow into a tumor. Onces it metasizes to a tumor it can grow and spread so fast into other organs. I have persoanlly seen tumors the size of a ball on the outside, the person demised per spreading internally age 24, a young female. see www.mpip.org for other stories. please rethink your contests, this one is NOT funny, ask any melanoma 'surivor' -I am one of them

Not a very bright idea guys. I'm 46 and have Stage IV melanoma. Got burned quite a bit growing up. Chances of survival for 5 years with Stage IV are about 7%. I'm looking to beat those odds but if I had a choice I'd rather not be in this position. Not really worth $250.

What makes the utter stupidity of these 'contestants' perfectly clear is that some obviously DID use sunscreen - to create what they thought would be a funny picture or message. How much more obvious could it be that these people burned themselves intentionally? Ya, those of us fighting melanoma caused by childhood sunburns are having a hard time seeing the humor....

Jaime's mom

This promotion is neither funny nor entertaining -- and awarding people with money for reckless and life-threatening behavior is irresponsible. My daughter Jaime died from melanoma caused by her tanning bed addiction so I find this to be most offensive. Trust me, there is nothing humorous about dying from melanoma or watching someone you love die from melanoma. TMZ should be ashamed of themselves for promoting this type of destructive behavior -- and sending out the message that damaging your skin can be rewarding or humorous.
