Rev. Wright -- Oprah Can't Help Poor People

9/4/2009 12:01 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Oprah may appear to be all-powerful -- but according to Reverend Jeremiah Wright, she doesn't have as much pull as we thought.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright: Click to watch
Barack Obama's former pastor was in D.C. yesterday, where he went on the Oprah offensive, saying she's only "an entertainer, not a politician" who doesn't "care" about social policy and can't help the poor at a structural level.

His words are rough -- but does he have a point?

Oprah is an entertainer. She does use her wealth to help others of her choosing.......and to not help others. That is her right to choose.

Just as it is my right to change the channel any and everytime I see her self serving, sanctimonious, pious, annoying, self righteous mug on the TV.

Anyone who has her own magazine named after her, and who only has herself on the cover except for her very very few 1-2 very very special friends...................self centered, egomaniac that I refused to give a dime to.

The Rev. says a lot of things people don't agree with but if you listen to him, he makes a lot of sense. And yes, Oprah is an entertainer as is everybody on TV, regardless of their opinions about the world, politics, etc. and they don't have power over how we think; although they think they do.

By saying something like that, he's just making other people with loads of money think they can't help either. Okay so maybe people should just stop donating their money to causes that help the poor.

Even if you can't completely change how something works, doesn't mean you can't help at all.
Everyone can help poor people. Everyone.

So basically what he's saying in his usual inflammatory way is that she's a giver, not a policy maker. DUH! Tell us something we don't already know, wingnut. And leave it to TMZ to take something so innocuous and try to turn it into a "it's on!" moment. Desperation is an ugly thing.

I'm really upset that Oprah has not said one thing about Michael's passing for the entire summer. Now that her show is premiering, she decides to speak. She's only interested in getting ratings.

"Winfrey will pay tribute on Wednesday to late pop singer Michael Jackson -- who died in June after an overdose of the drug propofol. Included in the tribute will be excerpts from her 1993 interview with Jackson."

Why didn't she send her condolences to the Jackson family? She had to wait two months to talk.

I bet you Oprah has done and gave more money to help the poor and disadvantage in this country than Rev. Wrigth and anyone who has something negative to say about Oprah.. all you haters need to chanel your hate into doing something positive.. Oprah is who she is because of her good work, but you all are just jealous of this BLACK WOMAN being the queen of all media. it is what it is.

It is simple. Is there is any less credible human being to discuss social policy on the planet earth than "Rev." Wright? Dude, open mouth and insert foot but please do not ever again speak on any subject whatever. Man of God, I think not but maybe if we are all so lucky soon to be mental hospital patient.

Hey Rev, Don't worry about Oprah, how about you helping out the poor folks. You are best buddies with the President and you live in a 10,000 sq ft. million and a half dollar home, surely you have a little something to give.

Rev. Wright is demn right about this comment. Instead of helping black folcks, she help to bring them down. Christ Brown is a perfect example of that.

He is right! She has all this money yes and has done very charitable things, but what Wright is referring to is hre right to do what ever she pleases with her money...those companies would not allow her to really help inner city school like I know she wants to...the people she works for pick most of her charitable ideas....on helping the the black community the only blacks that the big companies want her to be helping are Africans because they are far away and people just love helping the poor poor children far away so we dont have to see them every day. If Oprah supported the black community in America the way she supports mainstream America we would see a whole new breed of black children today....Oprah has THAT much pull and power that if she would have given her aundience that was mostly black a bunch of cars...they would have scrutinized her and called her out on giving hand outs to people..instead what do people say "oh she is so wonderful and giving" On another note I wish Oprah would have interviewed Chris Brown. I know she has issues with men abusing women...but instead of going around and doing a speacial on abuse and only taking one side why didnt she talk to him...they were friends ....he did stuff for her...and the boy is getting help as you can see...Now is not the time to have a witch hunt and down the kid...create an open dialouge and get to this point...I know this may not be the issue, but I think that two people hitting each other is wrong anyways...I think that women have TOO much leway in the things that they do and some men fall prey to that...lets look up the statistics of men being in an abusing relationship and see how many of them who cant even step up because they will be laughed at or ignored....I know what Chris did was wrong and I dont condone that, but there is always another side to that story...and I highly doubt that he just went on a hitting spree...someone in that car had to provolk him...should he has handled it a better way "Yes" but should have Rhianna handled herself a better way??? We will never know cause she never testified!!!
