Most Famous Photog Ever -- Imagine Losing It All

9/6/2009 11:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

In the world of high-end photography, Annie Leibovitz's portfolio is the equivalent of The Beatles' catalog -- and she's in danger of losing it all.

Annie Leibovitz, John Lennon, Yoko Ono

Leibovitz, who took the infamous last photo of John Lennon before he was assassinated, is facing catastrophic financial problems -- if she doesn't pay back a $24 million loan by Tuesday, she'll lose the rights to every big photo she's ever taken. The list includes that controversial Miley Cyrus photo from last year, the pregnant Demi Moore Vanity Fair cover, the cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" -- and really every interesting VF cover for the last 20 years or so.

In classic Michael Jackson-esque form, Leibovitz sunk deep into debt and then got a loan using her photo catalog (estimated at $40 million) and homes as collateral.

Tuesday is D-Day.

The cover of Born to run was shot by Eric Meola, not Leibovitz.

Ah well. I really dont have much sympathy for the rich plus, she's ugly as sin.

NO, Annie did not have to pay estate/inheritance tax:

Quote: When the state of Leibovitz’s finances later became public, outlets like Salon trumpeted the “gay tax” theory, the idea that Leibovitz’s finances had been depleted by the taxes she’d had to pay on her inheritance from Sontag. That wasn’t true. With the exception of four items of only sentimental value, the bulk of Sontag’s estate went to David Rieff, Sontag’s only child. Leibovitz’s relationship with Sontag was not mentioned in Sontag’s New York Times obituary, and Leibovitz did not speak at Sontag’s memorial service.

What? A Jew with money problems, the world has gone mad!

That's sad, but it's her own dumb ass fault for putting them up like as collateral.

Honestly getting sick of hearing how these celebs are going bankrupt...if they lived like normal human beings, and stopped buying a house in every other country, they could live out their lives very well.

Somebody , shoot it! Quick!

#34 I hope your reason is true. I hope she did spend herself broke.

Mr PhillipP, so I am an idiot ..and you must be one of many stupid wedding photographers? This jew lesbob*tch takes exploitation or nude photos after Vanity Fair pays the bill. Miley Cyrus almost lost her career after the lesbo photographed her. I see NOTHING ARTISTIC in being able to press a shutter button when someone is naked! Most people live on less than 100K per year..and Miss Lesbo is worried about paying the loan she owes? Maybe she'll have to get a real 50K yr job!!

She should have lived more frugally.

How on earth can you get 24 million in debt? Has she not been paid for all those photos she has taken all these years. And did she not have the common sense to make payments on these loans.
