Travolta First Witness -- Smoking Gun to Follow

9/23/2009 3:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

John TravoltaWe've learned John Travolta will be the first witness called today in the extortion trial over his son's death -- and after John steps down from the stand, there will be a legal dogfight in the courtroom over what could be the smoking gun in the case.

Sources say Travolta will testify for less than two hours. When he finishes, we're told defense lawyers will mount an objection to the introduction of a secret videotape which allegedly shows the attempted extortion played out.

The video was shot by authorities in the Bahamas. It shows Travolta's lawyers listening attentively as the alleged $25 million extortion demand is laid out on the table.

Prosecutors say former state senator/attorney Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightbourne threatened to release an essentially irrelevant document connected to Jett's death unless Travolta anted up.

We're told one video features Bridgewater and another vid puts the spotlight on Lightbourne.

my heart goes out to the family. having said that john and his wife should be ashamed of themselves. it is more than crystal clear that the child was autistic. we could of used john's and kelly's voice to stand up for kids with autism. they were ashamed of it and tried to hide it. maybe now they can come to grips with it and use the power of being a celebrity and take a stand. again i feel bad that their child died and i mean no disrespect to the family.

It doesn't matter if Travolta takes it up the butt by male boyfriends every night. Totally has NOTHING to do with what these pieces of crap tried to extort. Nothing. Stick to the crime that is on trial.

whether there is extortion or not...... I question Travolta's wanting to go to the airport as oppose to at least getting treatment asap in the Bahamas.. at least that way a doctor could evaluate his son's condition before allowing him to be flown somewhere else. I really feel sorry for Travolta, but I also question Travolta's decision. I don't know enough about seizures to say that IF he was given immediate medical care it would have made a difference. However, that definitely needs to be looked at..
