Roman Polanski Arrested -- Finally

Roman PolanskiRoman Polanski will not be able to attend the Zurich Film Festival -- which was set to honor him with a lifetime achievement award -- because he got arrested for that whole statutory rape thing he's been fleeing from for the past 30 years.

The famed director was taken into custody by Swiss authorities trying to enter Switzerland yesterday.

Polanski pled guilty in 1977 to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor (she was 13) but then fled the United States before he could be sentenced. Polanski has lived in France ever since to avoid being arrested.

There has been no timeline set as to when or if he will be extradited back to the U.S.

UPDATE -- According to Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, the U.S. Justice Department worked in conjunction with Swiss authorities in securing the arrest. According to the LA Times, they had come close to arresting Polanski several times over the past decade.

2. He drugged a 13 year old girl and sodomized her twice. He fled to France, because France loves their pedophiles more than they love their wine and cheese. For decades he thumbed his nose at the American Government as France, his money and celebrity protected him. I hope he shares a cell withh OJ and Phil Spector.
And I hope Woody Allen the second most famous pedophile, joins him next.

3. What a dope , why would he take a chance traveling when he knows he can still be arrested when he goes to country's with extradition agreements with the US?

4. The victim at the centre of the case, Samantha Geimer, has previously asked for the charges to be dropped, saying the continued publication of details "causes harm to me, my husband and children".

She has also called the court's insistence that Mr Polanski appear in person "a cruel joke".

I am not sure how I feel about all of this, but perhaps this should be taken into consideration.

I love your movies Roman, but people like you, OJ, Phil Spector, Papa Philips, all that that celebrity bought you a do-anything card. Anyone who defends this man, must be willing to say that they would allow him alone with their child or grandchild.

6. C'mon everyone. Even the "victim" in this case as said she sees no point in his being prosecuted, so why should anyone else? Did Polansky ever deny the charges? No. He faced justice, and the judge falsely and unfairly went against the plea bargain. Let's get on with life. California has so many problems with prison overcrowding, and now they want to put this elderly man inside one of it's "garbage" hotels (prison). Enough is enough.

11. The victim also maintained that this was no seduction, no just "statuary rape" but an outright rape. I remember the case and I haven't liked him since, and I've thought it strange people actually want to work for him. Likewise with Woody Allen. Let USA have him and jail him for a couple of years.

14. He was actually arrested for being cocky enough to announce to the world he was going to Switzerland where they have extradition agreements with the U.S. That's right, I said cocky.
