Woman in Letterman Case Lived with Suspect

10/2/2009 9:48 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

One of the women at the center of the David Letterman alleged extortion case is Stephanie Birkitt, his former assistant -- according to the search warrant obtained by FOX 5 New York. And, the warrant says, Birkitt was the suspect's girlfriend and we've learned she was living with him until recently.

According to the warrant, the suspect, "48 Hours" producer Robert "Joe" Halderman, sent Letterman a package which allegedly included treatments for a screenplay with supporting materials.

The warrant goes on to say the "supporting materials" included copies of parts of a diary and correspondence belonging to Birkitt.

Halderman allegedly sent more documents, including letters, emails and photos.

On September 23, Halderman allegedly told undercover cops he wouldn't make the diary public if Letterman anted up $2 million.

Letterman acknowledged on his show last night he had sexual relations with female members of his staff.

Birkett has been a regular on Letterman's show (see video).

She's pretty hot. Letterman is so freakin' high and mighty, I can't stand to watch him anymore. I hope he's the butt of thousands of jokes. He deserves it.

One night while watching the show a while back "Stephanie" came out into the audience to bring some restaurant tickets for a game Dave was playing with an audience member.Something went off inside of me that said "He is so doing her!" I have no idea why I thought that. It was just a feeling. She was shy and awkward, yet it was the way they looked at each other even for a split second that I just knew they were intimate. I'm amazed that I actually called it!!

I used to have respect for Letterman. Now I see that he goes after children for sexual favors...

May he burn in hell.

What's with you people? Why is someone who enjoys a sex life such a problem? I'm sure it's mainly because you don't have one. Who cares how, or with whom, or why, anyone has sex?. Your obsession with sex and going to hell (which doesn't exist, it was only invented to keep little people like you frightened and in line)says more about you than it does the person you're wailing on about. Grow up. Get a genuine life. You're all nuts.

Oh who cares? Letterman wasn't married at the time and neither was she. People, rich and poor, famous and unknown, have sex all the time. Big deal. It's not as if Letterman were an elected official the public had placed their trust in and had expected to live up to a higher moral standard.

LETTERMAN IS A HERO!!! He is helping to bring a criminal to justice. Good for him. He's only been married since this March and so if he had sex with women before this time, you know what they should call it - being a man. B.F.D.

Hey Harvey
Did you hear the last line in the video?
"Lets just hope the wife's not watching." Is that a Freudian slip or WHAT?

Yhe question is, did he use his money OR CBS shareholder money to pay for his tarts? If the little tarts were being paid from company money for sex than Letterman has some explaining to do. Actually, it is probably fraud if he used company money. And that old fart has the gall to make fun of Sarah Palin. Fire David Letterman!!!

As some people have said earlier, the point isn't whether or not consenting adults were having sex, but that he was having sex with employees and therefore, the sex was not completely consensual.

Where do all these comedians/married guys get the nerve to get on national tv and put down Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Gary Hart, the Governor of New Jersy and all the other guys who can't seem to understand the concept of fidelity, when the entire time THEY THEMSELVES seem to be docking at any port they can belly up to??? Why are they so delusional to think that they won't get caught? Really... what is it with these guy's egos???

Does anybody else think that the audience laughter and applause were a little out of place while Dave recounted the story? Had they been advised that it was a true story/ was there any understanding that it wasn't a joke? How irritating and inappropriate! There was NOTHING FUNNY about the story!!
