GLAAD: Mickey Rourke Is 'Painfully Ignorant'

10/9/2009 4:12 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Mickey RourkeThe president of The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) just personally issued the following statement, condemning Mickey Rourke for defending the use of the homophobic f-word:

"This is a slur that, regardless of what Mickey Rourke has convinced himself that it means, is often the last word that gay people, and gay youth in particular, hear before they're bullied, harassed or assaulted.

Rourke is showing himself to be painfully ignorant of how this vulgar, abusive slur feeds a climate of anti-gay hatred, intolerance and violence.

Rourke either needs to figure this out, or media needs to stop giving him a platform for promoting these kinds of slurs.

Rourke is right the term does not always need to be about gay people. Sometime its just about being soft. I mean they take offense when people are not really talking to about being gay. Things do have duel meaning and their meaning was not even the original.

Mickey, love you, but why do you have to swear f----,and b----,
can't you be yourself, you have to clean up your mouth, you are
57 now. In order to redeem yourself, your need to watch your
mouth. We need you in movies, not disbared from movies because
of your mouth. Just cool the booze!! Do you need the attention
by showing off, can't you be swave again like your old image.

Re-read that same quoted statement and replace the F-word with the N-word. Same difference. They say history repeats itself, but not literally as one might think. For example: "This is a slur that [...] is often the last word that BLACK people, and BLACK youth in particular, hear before they're bullied, harassed or assaulted."
Now, imagine taking that word away from breeders like black people did from white people. Use original old-school (really old school) definitions and keep them alive. Black people say ***** like it's brotha. SO I'm going to call you a bundle of sticks or cigarette, depending on whether I'm using *** or ***got.
Words are bad only because we say so... So change definitions and all words will be normal and unexciting to use in daily life.

Mickey Rourke doesn't "need" to do anything. And the media will continue to do what media does.

Any questions?
