Anka on Jackson -- They See it My Way

10/12/2009 7:18 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Paul AnkaPaul Anka tells TMZ the people handling Michael Jackson's estate are falling over each other ... apologizing for "ripping-off my song" and offering "anything you want" to make the mess go away.

And, John Branca just told TMZ, "We acknowledge that Michael and Paul wrote this song together."

As we first reported, Anka claims the new Jackson song, "This Is It" is the Michael Jackson track Anka co-wrote with Jackson in 1983, which Jackson originally recorded under the title, "I Never Heard."

Anka tells TMZ he just got off the phone with John McClain, the co-Special Administrator for Jackson's estate. Anka says McClain apologized profusely, saying he knew "Michael couldn't have written this song alone. It's not his style."

Anka says McClain now acknowledges that "This Is It" is really Paul's song, and said, "We'll give you whatever you want, whatever it takes we'll do the right thing."

Anka says he's not trying to hold the estate up but he wants them to be fair.

And how's this ... Anka says McClain asked him to do promotion for the song.

It's Hollywood, folks.

The only reason, and I mean the only REASON this song is decent is because of MJ, PERIOD! If it would have been given to any other person no one would have heard it or even cared about it OR do this whole controversy thing. CAuse the song is not that great, MJ's master vocals is what makes the song bottom line. PAUL ANKA? The only generation who knows that guy are dinosaurs. AND yes the song was written by both ANKA and MJ so How is that "stealing" and furthermore MJ did not release it, so stop saying he stole it, DUMB ASS sony released it. MJ always gave credit to everyone who was involved in his music, obviously he couldn't in this situation, the responsibility fell on sony to do and they failed.
HE got his share so he should stop whining about it, no one remembers his stupid ass anyway. He's just bitter and wants his 15 minutes of fame again, wah wah....HE knows anything attached to MJ right now means big bucks, which he most likely needs, knowing his music isn't making any money.

If Michael Jackson "CO-WROTE" the song with Paul Anka "THEN HE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO MAKE A COPY OF THE TAPE".... After all Michael Jackson helped write the song and "He sang the lyrics" so it was actually Michaels song more than Ankas in my opinion.. And I agree if they say the song "wasn't MJ style" then wtf use it for the movie?? Blood sucking morons, Sony and everybody else who is making money at MJ's expense!! MJ would have never released this song in the state it was presented to the world in, "He Is A Perfectionist", My God the brothers are drowning MJ out with the bg vocals at times.. "LEECHES"!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look in the book by Chris Cadman and Craig Halstead called Michael Jackson For The Record you will find a song also called This Is It, written by MJ in 1980 and registered with the United States Copyright Office in Nov 1984. Remains unreleased, page 317.MJ would not steal someone else's song,he was to much of a perfectionist to release this song anyway ,it wouldn't have been up to his standards.

Holla! Ultimately it's about the catalog. Can't speak for the "theft" though.

61. The song is in the movie. It is going to be played over the closing credits. It is also on the 2 disc cd being released, not one but two different versions of the song. Then there's the single, then there is the DVD of the movie being released.

------------------------

The song is a single' and not in "This is it" Movie or production' so Paul get half {lifetime} only when the single' makes money, Michael's children {Trust} receives the other half, it's simply a co-written song.

Paul Anka ... do not imagine absurdities! Michael's music is far superior to his! It is so ugly you want to be taking advantage of the image of the most talented artist in the world! Be quiet for so is less ridiculous for you!

This guy is complaining that he co-wrote the song and is not getting anything. Well, I would like to mention that Michael was a perfectionist. If he didn't think it was the best, he wouldn't release it. I heard on the radio that he sung this song over 18 years ago. Obviously, if he wanted to make money off of it and share the profit with Paul, he would've, but he didn't. So I think we should just leave the song where it was and all the other ones he recorded but didn't sell and move on. There's obviously going to be more conflicts.

Sony didn't steal the tapes from Anka. Michael did!! People crack me up defending him. I suppose all the boys in his bed were just his friends. I suppose that he gave the parents of one boy $16million just to avoid..hmmm being outted? Give me a break he was human (I think) not some god. He stole it and had no intention of telling anyone that he did. Mr. Anka deserves half or maybe more for damages. He was a drug addict that died of an overdose that administered by a criminal that he was keeping company with. The doctor was no more than his pusher. A talented junkie.

ok what a mistake of all the songs they could have picked they picked this one so someone can claim 50% of the royalty ok it seem like the exec's are giving away money, because their mistakes i hope the judge is taking notes, the song was half michael's and did michael's get half the profits when he recorded it, NO, so why is it ok that the exec's are so in a rush to make him a offer, it seem everyone the exec knows is coming out the woods seeking money from the estate what is their cut i wonder..... some legal expert please put a stop to the extortion please .....or is the judge getting paid under the table to turn a blinds eye the will is fake the exec's are just offering money to whom ever and michael is turning in his grave...........shameful

something is wrong here, How could they create this mess, use the song as the soundtrack of the movie and didn't realize this is Anka's song? and what the heck with McClain asked Anka to promote the song? sounds like he wants to make more profit!
God, MJ is dead now and still these lawsuits never end!!! leave the man and his family alone!!! you are ripping them off!!!
