Paul Anka -- 'Honest Mistake'

10/12/2009 9:10 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Paul Anka says he's all square with Michael Jackson's estate over the release of "This Is It" -- a song Paul helped write -- saying the special administrators realized "there was a wrong here" and they immediately "made it right..." as in 50% of publishing rights. Can you say BONANZA?

34. No, Jon Gosselin just happens to be an A#1 ass! Do YOU look up to someone who has treated his family like crap, stolen money from their mother so she can't pay their bills, brings his girlfriend over to spend the night on his weekends (in his wife's bed, I might add)? You're more hopeless than I thought!

Do you hate EVERYBODY? You sure seem to have a critical word for anyone regardless of the subject. What a pathetic loser you are.

Deb, little 'OhWell' is a secret Michael fan; hence the million posts this little assclown leaves on EVERY thread that has ANYthing to do with Michael. The little loser had a 3-day weekend off from junior high and doesn't have a single thing to do; look at all the posts 'it' has left ALL DAY LONG today...lol, pathetic loser is SO right!

25 Imagine this: Considering the number of songs which could be on those hard drives, it's quite possible that Sony can release a bunch of stuff just to bleed the estate. Kinda like corporate sabotage.
As an afterthought: It seems that the players (Sony, AEG, The Jacksons, Tohme Tohme, Colony Cap., Branca, Dileo, etc) must all be VERY suspicious of each other. No one can trust anyone. Oh what a tangled web we weave. I'm lovin it!
Back to bed for me:-) G'night!

MJ would agree with this. When he purchased the ATV catalogue he gave royalities to those whose music was part of the package, other than the Beatles the catalogue also included artists like Chuck Berry who was shafted by his record label for royalities but MJ gave him royalities because he thought it was fair for Berry to have money off his art. So MJ would agree that Anka needed to be compensated for his work.

people , don't be fouled the lawyers made this up so they can,cut in to
the profit of this song for themselves. If it wasn't for MICHAEL'S voice
this guy would not sell 2 records even.
The plan is for these friends of the two lawyers on the estate to keep

claiming on it untill nothing left for the kids. why 50% this guy mostly
should get 20% he could not make a penny out of this song with his voice?
LOOK UP....LOOK UP... THE VULTURES ARE COMING!!!! it's disgusting....

24. Michael Jackson rarely did anything, where he didn't have complete control. I'm sure there is more than one reason that MJ didn't relases this song.

Who's in the wrong?
1. Sony - No Due deligence!
2. Branca & Mcclain - No due Deligence!
3. Paul Anka - For disperaging MJ without all the facts!

I hope everyone learns a lesson from this. Take your time and get in right.....and just when you think you have it right, perfect it(MJ Style).

I'm pleased Paul Anka got his 50%(big time). Paul Anka is a musical genius from a very early age. The funny thing about Anka is the song he is most known for "MY WAY"(written for Sinatra), was a rip off of a French song written by Claude François -called " Comme d'habitude ".

Irony is a bitch !

Hey PAUL ANKA! If MJ was such a bad writter why did you record "The Way You Make Me Feel" Written by MJ on your "Rock Swings" CD ? Guess he wasn't that "BAD" !

truth

Too late, Paul, there has been a negative on Michael's grave.

Why did McClain say this, as Paul reported earlier, and why did Paul repeat it: Paul also said John McClain told him, "Now we know why the song was so good ... it wasn't the type of Michael Jackson song that he could write."

If this is true, how dare McClain.

truth: 44. Too late, Paul, there has been a negative on Michael's grave.

But he got his money - and the publicity by going about it this way. So I guess he doesn´t care one way or the other.

The public should know who the co-writer was and it shouldn't have been swept under the rug privately. If you co-wrote a song that was being played all over the place, I'm sure you would like public recognition.

Music critics were already blogging that this was too similiar to I Never Heard before this story broke. It was coming out on it's own.

33. Mr. Anka,

YOU seem to have jumped the gun and publicized something that could have EASILY been dealt with privately. What a shame. Yes, you may deserve some rights to the song, but is it just "typical" Hollywood to be so bitter about it? Look in the mirror, Mr. Anka, it's not a pretty sight from where the public stands. Now go enjoy your new found money, after all, THAT is what it's all about, isn't it? Those wrinkles didn't come from smiling and laughter, did they?

Some more facts here. Anka says that the song Michael recorded was supposed to be a duet on Anka's album.

Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were shafted with their songwriting royalties too in the 60's, and were being paid a ridiculously low rate. When Michael got the catalogue, and Paul asked for an increase for them, he basically told him to go away. So, please don't tell me how altruistic Michael was when it came to other artists. He bought that catalogue specifically because of the Beatles songs, and made him a very rich man, and then didn't even think of them as people who deserved a decent wage for their songwriting royalties.

He totally screwed John Landis out of royalties on the Thriller video, for which he is 50% co-owner and there is still a current lawsuit ongoing, which was over $10 million before his death, and probably is now even larger. Ola was suppose to receive ongoing royalties. Screwed her too.

39. MJ would agree with this. Paul Anka sucks. What a greedy a hole.
Who disparages a dead person by saying the person stole their tapes? They should sue him for defamation.
