Ex-Letterman Writer Claims Sexual Favoritism

10/27/2009 1:01 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

David LettermanA former Letterman writer claims Dave's show was a "hostile, sexually charged atmosphere" -- and "sexual politics" played a role in why she eventually quit the job.

The woman making the claim is Nell Scovell, who spent roughly 5 months working for Dave back in 1990.

In an article for Vanity Fair, Scovell claims during her employment, she was well aware that Dave and other high-level male employees were having sexual relations with female staffers.

Scovell also claims those female staffers were "benefiting professionally from their personal relationships."

She adds, "Did that make me feel demeaned? Completely. Did I say anything at the time? Sadly, no."

But she's talkin' now.

In the article, Scovell claims she's not looking to take any legal action against Dave or the show -- and she never identifies any of the alleged staffer-bangers by name.

#32, so true. They think women are stupid. They think if women see a female name signed to a comment they'll be convinced to think the same way

That poor, poor thing. How did she endure such a treacherous memory all these years? Nell has shown such self-restraint to hold in such a story of pain and anguish in her heart all these years until the proper amount of publicity could be gained from her whining.

Looking at Dave Letterman's show is a waste of time. As a former long-time viewer, Dave's flawed actions/decisions cloud his shows since the Letterman's Scandal erupted.

I said I would NEVER watch Conan but that has changed too, the lesser of two evils.

The CBS honchos are based in the same gutter as Letterman.

Dave's jokes don't even come close to being funny.

Pack up what's left of your family, David Letterman, and ride off into the sunset of Montana and let new talent give it a shot.
Hopefully, all the new talent needs to do is:

1) be funny
2) be relevant
3) be someone other than David Letterman

first Letterman, then ESPN, and so on , and so on.....I'm glad she stepped forward. So many people won't bother because they get labeled as an "attitude problem" and lose their career options.

This is no surprise to me. Dave is a predator and predators mark their territory. Even at 19 this woman would have known that to make it you had to make Dave. Now, if Dave can use all this to up his ratings why would there be anything wrong with her telling a story that simply confirms what most of us already knew. Why he is still "entertaining" us nightly I don't know. I can think of a great top ten list of why Dave screwed every body around him, or at least those who wanted to stay and move up the pay scale. For Dave it is not pay as you go it's you pay when you c_m. He's a sleaze and if you continue to enable this guy it tells me a lot about you. Time to go is well past due Dave.

7. She's telling the truth. It's not easy to bring this stuff up. It's like the immature teachers who socialize with some students, and give them better grades.

******************

No, she's not telling the truth. I worked on the Lettweman show from 1989-1995, much longer than Little Nell's 5 months (and while she was there, I might add), and she is full of crap.

Yes, this woman probably should have gone public years ago, however, in that kind of charged environment it is very difficult to be the one to step forwrd and blow the whistle. Who would listen to you anyway. You would become the staff pariah, be made a joke of, and eventually fired for "other" reasons, real or imagnined.

Dave Letterman seems to be as popular as ever. I can't comment on the personally as I never liked him anyway. Too flip. Too arrogant. Too in love with himself.

I really cannot believe how so many of you are incredibly ignorant and don't see the point here!!??

Like some sane people on here have posted, of course she was not going to come public with it 19 years ago; no one would believe her. She did the right thing and quit. I can't see how anyone would WANT to get that close to the pervert he is. I myself would never want to be doing it with some pervert, grandpa looking man. Yuck!! For those of you that said, she left because Letterman wouldn't "do her" and that she was ugly?? Are you for real?? Are you really that stupid?? It's a big thing in the news NOW that is why coming out and saying what she did IS REVELENT NOW!! And not 19 years ago. Anyone that can still be a fan of his is speaking volumes on the kind of person they are!! Truly sick!!
