Shaquille O'Neal's wife Shaunie has abruptly flown to Los Angeles and filed a petition for legal separation in Los Angeles County Superior Court ... and Shaq's people think it's all about money.
TMZ has learned Shaunie filed legal papers yesterday in L.A., even though the couple lives in Florida. The petition says although Shaunie is filing for legal separation, she intends to file for divorce. She lists "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for separation.
We're told Shaunie pulled her kids out of school in Florida several days ago and they are with her now in L.A.
Why, you ask, would Shaunie cross the country to file in L.A.? Well, a spouse generally does a lot better in the spousal support department here in California. Shaunie is asking for both spousal and child support -- though she did not specify an amount for either.
Shaunie claims in her papers to be a resident of L.A. since November 8, 2009 -- 2 days ago.
The date of separation is listed as 11-9-09. The couple has 4 minor children. Shaunie wants legal and physical custody of all the kids.
They have been married for 6 years, 11 months.

heard on local radio that shaq has been seen in the dc area alot lately because he is now messing around with gilbert arena's fiancee....there has been several email exchange between them that got leaked to the public and i believe this might be the reason for the seperation...
Well she has to do what she has to do but I think she is being a little selfish by removing the kids, they are happy and content in school. However she never brought her kids to sporting events she signed them up for, a good mother well maybe just an ok mother or too self involved with herself and her feelings. She did kinda let herself go as well and the rumor was she had affairs also.

Her legal tactic will be shot down if she does file residency in California and later for divorce, especially for pulling kids out of school right at Finals. That's a big no-no. 'Forum-shopping' is prohibited under the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act (the UCCJA) It's easy to tell through people's actions where their true interests are: she could care less about the kids and their welfare...she's out for gold!

Wife had to pull kids out of school in FL & file for legal separation in California. FLorida has no "legal separation" status, your either married or not. I found that out the hard way
I don't know about any of them, but all I can say is Shaquille always comes across as having a mental age of 9 on every TMZ vid I see.

Her filing legal separation in California after only being a resident for a couple of days is NOT VALID in California. If you want to file for legal separation, you have to be a resident in the county you are filing for AT LEAST 3 months. If you want a divorce in CA, you will need to be a resident in the county you filed for at least 6 months. Then it will take at least another 6 months to get a divorce! I don't know what the hell she was thinking...she's looking so dumb.
