Gosselin to TLC: I'm 'Unsophisticated'

11/11/2009 8:54 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Jon Gosselin has fired back at TLC ...attacking the network that's trying to get an injunction prohibiting him from making dough on shows other than TLC.

Gosselin wants the contract he made with TLC declared invalid on grounds it's unconscionable -- translation: Jon had no lawyer or manager when he sat down with TLC and inked the deal.

The best part -- Gosselin refers to himself as "an unsophisticated father of eight." He claims the deal was so bad ... he and his family only pulled in $2,000 an episode at the beginning. That's $200 a head.

Gosselin also claims TLC violated child labor laws.

Gosselin claims if TLC gets the injunction he'll be "unable to earn a living as a television personality, and therefore be precluded from supporting his eight children, whereas Plaintiff (TLC) currently has its show on 'indefinite hiatus.''

What Jon didn't say in his legal response -- how he'll deal with TLC's claim that he derailed the show by mounting what the network believes is a phony objection. If a judge buys TLC's claim it could cost Jon millions in damages.

And TLC wants Jon to cough up all the loot he made by selling his life to all the shows and websites over the last few months.

Well, it's actually true that if Jon wants to take financial advantage of his current "fame", he does need to strike while the iron is hot. The opportunities will be short-lived. The same is true for Kate. Unless TLC intends to air reruns of their show indefinitely - they both will soon drift into oblivion. Audiences have short memories, and will go on to the next bright and shiny thing.

They both need to seriously downsize their standard of living, though, since neither of them have the natural skills and talent to support the kind of lifestyle they've adopted (both jointly and separately) with the money coming from the show. They need to just move the kids back into the smaller house, figure out cheap accommodations for whichever parent isn't with the kids, get rid of all the nannies and the cook and the maids and the bodyguards etc. and figure out how to take care of their kids and the house on a low budget. Millions of Americans do it every day, and so can Jon and Kate, who (if they don't squander everything on lawyers) could also have a good emergency fund from whatever is left over from the high-flying days.

They remind me of big lottery winners, who too often blow through the money and end up worse off financially than before.

Jon needs to let the show go on becuase he is never going to make enough to support 8 kids. He is just mad becuase TLC pulled the plug on him so he needs to man up and think of the kids.

Isnt The Insider and Entertainment Tonight breaking Jon's contract by having him on the air. I know that they must know so can they be sued also?

His line of defense reminds me of the old plea about the boy who killed his parents and then begged the court for mercy because he was an "orphan."

Hmmm, I don't think so. The way I see it is, The Insider and ET don't have a contract so therefore are not, and cannot be, breaking one. You can't break what you haven't got. Jon G., on the other hand, does have a contract so he, and he alone, is the one breaking it.

Just my opinion.

This man is a rat. Having said that, he and Kate need to get a divorce now and have some custody arrangement. There is precedence for children to continue appearing on these stupid TV shows even though one parent objects (Charley Sheen and his ex had the same issues and she prevailed).

This way he is out of the picture and the kids get to pocket their own money which would be protected from the rat. How long is the contract with TLC? To be fair, the rat needs to make money and if the TLC contract has no provision for an increase based on ratings, whatever, then he has the right to modify the contract or move on elsewhere to support the pack.

Everytime I hear about this TLC contract, it sounds like it is indefinite and the rat cannot get cheese from elsewhere. Can't have it both way.

This was an interesting allegation: Gosselin claims if TLC gets the injunction he'll be "unable to earn a living as a television personality, and therefore be precluded from supporting his eight children, whereas Plaintiff (TLC) currently has its show on 'indefinite hiatus.''
That is exactly what he did to Kate when HE (not TLC) stopped production of the show. His earning potential has been more affected by the things he has been doing i.e. the young chickies, taking large amounts of cash from family accounts etc.

If he can't earn a living as a 'television personality', then he can go back to work in the 'general' sector. If he was worth anything, surely we would have seen some positive media by now. Anyone who hires him must be doing it because he's akin to a car accident and the populace wants to rubberneck.

Jon fails to mention that the show is off of TLC because of HIM! He's just mad that they fired his skanky butt. I'm sick of seeing him on other gossip shows. He's a money grubbing bug and he should be living in PA near his children so he can be a proper father. He doesn't want to have to work to earn money, he seems more interested in getting half of whatever money Kate has and does anyone really believe if he gained custody of those kids that those funds set up for them wouldn't be depleted by him? Grow up!
