DJ AM -- Wrongful Death Suit Over Drugs

11/13/2009 6:40 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

DJ AMA pretty incredible twist in the death of DJ AM (aka Adam Goldstein) ... The company that chartered the plane carrying DJ AM that crashed in South Carolina is now being sued for wrongful death because "the crash ultimately caused Adam Goldstein's death."

The amended suit in L.A. County Superior Court notes DJ AM was forced to take various drugs as a result of the burns he suffered, along with the emotional distress.

In addition to Clay Lacy Aviation, DJ AM's estate is suing the travel service, Goodyear Tire, Learjet and the estates of the two pilots who were killed in the crash.

Ultimately DJ AM's death was caused by a combination of various prescription drugs, along with cocaine.

The upshot ... the drugs were the direct result of the crash.

We also know DJ AM became intensely fearful of flying and began taking drugs to calm his nerves when he flew.

UPDATE: A Clay Lacy Aviation rep just told TMZ, "...Clay Lacy Aviation did not own or operate the aircraft involved." Translation -- not our fault.

Does anyone else see the irony here? He was afraid of flying thinking that he might die on a plane. So he turned to drugs. Which ultimately killed him. Hello? Bueller?

Wow

I can see the issue with the anti-anxiety medicine, but no one made him put a crack pipe to his lips. This lawsuit is bogus.

Hmmmmm....I became an alcoholic because of my traumatic childhood - I think I'll sue my parents! So stupid - usually when people file claims like this, they make some attempt to make it sound valid ("I'm suing McDonald's for a million dollars so that no one else will have to get burned by their hot coffee!"), but there is NO JUSTIFICATION for this lawsuit except that the FAMILY WANTS MORE CASH!!!! Seriously, are they trying to get doctors not to prescribe pain medication when people suffer from burns? It never ceases to amaze me how incredibly greedy people can be.

There are very valid reasons for suing corporations and individuals for various wrongs - THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. What a load of crap. The guy was a crackhead - it's nobody's fault but HIS OWN and he paid the ultimate price. This is a bogus lawsuit and should be thrown out of court.

Does this mean I get to sue the Girl Scouts for the extra pounds I put on as a result of eating their cookies as a kid?

The sad thing is that the person who filed this RIDICULOUS suit WILL get money in the end because the parties involve will settle before court.

Somehow, the families of dead celebrities manage to milk every last drop of money from their deceased "loved" ones.

Ugh. It's crap like this that just wastes time and money, our taxes hard at work, as usual. This poor man, to try to make money off of his tragic addiction and death, just sickens me. After seeing firsthand in NYC how talented this guy was, (and really nice looking) I really felt a pain in my heart to hear he had passed. Let the man rest in peace.

What has happened to personal responsibility? Then I'm going to sue McDonald's because they made me fat. Yeah...

Someone is just trying to get rich. That's like trying to sue the makers of Propofol for killing Michael Jackson. It was DJ AM who took all those drugs together so he ended up dying.

So the plane crash is responsible for a coke-head doing coke. Give me a break he was already a self-professed addict. Why aren't they suing the ex-girlfriend since they claim he did drugs because of the break-up. Ridiculous!

He died because he did a show with MTV in which he was buying drugs. In an interview he said the show had him buy a crack pipe. He said he was sitting and holding the pipe and he realised doing the show was probably not a good idea because he suddenly had the urge to use the pipe!!!

It is MTV not the airline that pulled him back into the drug world.

They should sue the manufacturer of the syringes he used to shoot up the cocaine too. Because ultimately, without those syringes, he couldn't OD. So the syringes are directly responsible.

Oh, and sue Bic Lighter too, because he melted the coke with it.

Maybe they should sue oxygen too, because there wouldn't be a fire to melt the coke had there not been any oxygen.

HOW ABOUT SUING HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR NOT BEING THERE FOR HIM AND TO HELP HIM THROUGH A TOUGH TIME AND TO TELL HIM, "NO, DON'T TAKE DRUGS"? HOW ABOUT THAT?!?
