Swift Sues Sports Bar After Sting Operation

11/19/2009 2:50 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Taylor Swift Taylor Swift wants justice after a sting operation in Idaho revealed that a little sports bar was totally cheating her out of ... a few dollars a month.

Swift has attached herself to a copyright infringement lawsuit spearheaded by BMI -- the enforcer of music royalties.

According to a lawyer connected to the case, BMI deployed an "agent" to go on a recon mission at The Sports Cellar bar sometime last year, and the agent noticed the bar was playing music -- including Taylor's stuff -- that they hadn't paid for the right to play.

We're told they even used the allegedly stolen music for Karaoke!!!! Have they no shame?!

Swift and co. are suing for unspecified damages -- but compared to the millions she's raking in right now, this thing in Idaho is totally small potatoes.

Taylor needs to sue her dentist for giving her those fake, huge, ugly, nasty, horse teeth! She can barely close that mouth of hers, and she definitely cannot sing worth a crap. Her songs are about as dumb as those Mr. Ed teeth. She has zilch talent, and she needs to quit wearing those stupid fake eyelashes, they do not make her squinty eyes any bigger.

I assure you all that Taylor doesnt know anything about this. She isnt going to waste her time on some small sports bar playing her music. This is a girl that makes it a practice to keep her ticket prices fair so she doesnt rip off her young fans. Taylor isnt about the money i assure you. I'm not trying to kiss anyone's ass but i seriously dont think she has a hand in this. TMZ is trying to make a story out of nothing and trying to make her look like a greedy bitch. I assure you, she isnt.

Some bar owners honestly may not realize ASCAP and BMI fees are a legitimate cost of doing business. Some just think they won't get caught. Some may be offended by a heavy handed letter when they get caught, but all bar owners are afforded the opportunity to avoid a lawsuit and just pay the license fee and be done with it. The smart bar owners fork out a few hundred bucks and life goes on. As for the rest...

NO BAR OWNER HAS EVER BEATEN ASCAP IN COURT. EVER. And the fines are several thousand dollars PER SONG. Going to court with ASCAP is STUPID and I don't feel sorry for STUPID.

Should there be an ASCAP or BMI? Well how would you pay the guy or gal who wrote the song? They can't go on tour and sell albums and tee shirts unless they happen to perform the songs themselves. So without ASCAP, the supply of new music slows down to a trickle.
