Oprah's parents, Vernon and Vernie, never married. Oprah was shipped off to live with her dad in her early teens. Early on, you could see Vernie in her audience. Until a few years ago, you could find Oprah talking about her father, Vernon. However, when Vernon married a woman and declared he was going to hawk a book about his life, we no longer saw Vernon.
I'm not even an O fan but that much I know. Her parents have become stab-in-the-back embarrassments to Oprah.

Why hate? "O" can do what she wants with her finances. She earned it, if she wants to bail out her mom then let her. She wants to do that in 2 yrs from now, let her. Let "O" be. If the tables were turned around .... who knows, you'd probably do the same. Stop the hate.

#6... OOPS... your grammar is also incorrect... 'if' in the subjunctive case is always used with 'were' not 'was' ... hello! Therefore it must read, "It would have been a much nicer gift if it WERE not tainted with the lawsuit."

Oprah is not responsible for paying her mother's bills. Oprah did not make those bills and therefore must not be held accountable. The fact that she has paid her mother's debt is generous. U$150K+ in clothing is ridiculous when one doesn't have the finances to cover the cost. In addition, that store was exploiting that lady because they knew they could... 1.) own the FREE publicity, and ... 2.) still get paid. After all the lady bought the clothing in good faith. The greedy store owners were hustling for the cash as most businesses here in the US. They saw an opportunity to make money and took it home to Uncle Sam.

TO RON, #29. I AM SO SORRY FOR WHAT YOUR RELATIVES DID TO YOU. I truly hope if anyone who read your comment and, is in the same situation, will not permit themselves to be "taken." My father owned and operated a barber and beauty shop. We had relatives who traveled across town for their haircuts and hairstyling and never paid a dime or, even a "thank you" because my father never said a word. Like you, he was extremely kind and generous. When he died, these moochers did not even come to pay their respects. I have paid them back by dropping them from my "family" list. I'm sure Oprah doesn't have a realtionship with her mother for personal reasons, but if she's able to help her that would be the right thing to do, HELL she helps everybody else thats not even her color.
