'Office Space' Star: Yo Wikipedia, I'm Not Gay!

12/5/2009 7:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Ron Livingston -- the guy who played Peter in "Office Space" -- is sick and tired of someone constantly changing his Wikipedia page to say he's in a gay relationship ... and now he's suing to make the rumors stop.

Ron -- who married a woman earlier this year -- claims some mystery Internet bandit began relentlessly changing his Wiki page to say he's in a relationship with a man named Lee Dennison ... a claim Livingston says is completely false and "malicious."

According to the lawsuit, filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court, the Wiki-hacking began back in May -- and every time Ron's reps remove the false info from his Wiki page ... the bandit "changes them back almost immediately."

And it gets better: Ron believes the perp also created fake Facebook profiles for himself and Lee, and both pages claim the two are "In a relationship" with each other.

Livingston is suing for libel, invasion of privacy and for using his name and likeness without his permission. Damages haven't been specified.

I'm sure that he probably isn't gay, but when has getting married to a female ever been "proof" that you aren't?

It's not defamation to say he's gay, because there's nothing wrong with being gay.

But it IS defamation to say he's in a sexual relationship (of any kind) outside his marriage; that's an accusation that he's an adulterer, which, if untrue, would certainly qualify as libel or slander.

Woah, I'd been thinking this guy was gay because of some comment I'd read on a board about him awhile back. They said he was gay and living with some guy. I wonder if they got the info from Wikipedia. I was surprised because I didn't know, not that I'd really seen him in anything back when I read that. I enjoyed that sci-fi series he was in on ABC, Defying Gravity. I hope that comes on again. The fact that whoever is doing this is saying he's with a specific guy makes it seem real. Why would someone go through all those Wiki changes and make Facebook pages just for kicks? It seems weird. Maybe he's bi and had a vengeful ex-lover. Does anyone know if the guy he's said to be with exists?

I thought Harvey might be gay. Definately not a shocker.

I would urge everyone to check the research that's been done by the people at The Wikipedia Review:

http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?showtopic=27677

Apparently everything associated with this rumor is *completely fake.* The person claimed to be "living" with Ron Livingston doesn't exist at all, and the whole thing is an incredibly elaborate hoax perpetrated on Wikipedia by some British expatriate who used to work for an alcohol rehab center, but now runs a B&B in France.

It's pretty hard to believe, but it looks like Livingston has more than just a legitimate case!

Fixer

The Wikipedia Review has just completed the story of how a British actor made up a gay character named "Lee Dennison" for promotional and gossip purposes. This is the guy used to suggest Ron Livingston is cheating on his wife, on Wikipedia and other websites. The story is here:

http://wikipediareview.com/blog/20091211/its-the-casting-director-lee-dennison-story/

For those who wonder why Wikipedia didn't lock the biography, you must know that Wikipedia is not careful about biograpies of living people, because they don't have to be. Legally, like all websites, they're not liable for defamation committed by their "editors" and so they often allow even anonymous IP-address editors to edit biographies. That's what happened to Livingston. This deplorably irresponsible policy is one of Wikipedia's worst failings. And yes, the Wikimedia Foundation knows plenty of people are unhappy about it. THEY DON'T CARE.

Hey, you guys should follow up on this. For anyone looking into it, www.wikipediareview.com has figured out not just who this was, but that the guy completely invented the supposed live-in, along with dozens of other characters over several years. Why? That would be to bolster his sham porn company, of course. The same guy has apparently been following Livingston around, and even took the picture of Livingston, scowling back at him, that appeared for a couple of years on Livingston's Wikipedia biography. The picture is now deleted, but is still on Google Images. Search "File:Ron Livingston.jpg". The details and credits for the photo are still cached by Google on first the search result.
