James Cameron -- True Lies

12/26/2009 4:28 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Just five days before James Cameron called a fan a "f**king a**hole" after refusing to sign an autograph, the "Avatar" director proclaimed that he'd "sign as many autographs as people will line up for."

James Cameron -- True Lies
During an interview with "Good Day L.A." -- which airs on the FOX station in L.A. -- on December 18, Cameron told Dorothy Lucy, "The only worse thing than to have to sign a lot of autographs is to have them not show up."

Apparently, Cameron forgot that logic Wednesday afternoon, when he rejected a fan request at LAX -- and then blasted the guy for invading his "personal space."

...mightymad; do you mean, whoever else is too "dense" to get this? (shakes her head)...i get it, you think cameron should have behaved differently -- defused the situation. i say, he's in a free country and he can behave anyway he wants...it's that simple...

Oh yes! For sure all this will affect the ticket sales ... not negatively, as the naive people around here like to think.
Cameron's "poor beavior" is part of the buzz/controversy going around all his films.
Just keep talking about him and his latest picture.

And ... to the ones calling for a boycott...: do you really believe some negative comments here could affect the box office in, let's say, Russia.... Germany.... Argentina... India? The world is much bigger than what some commenters on TMZ think.

Negative comments on TMZ are par for the course, and are nearly always made by non-thinking slobs content with the slanted, sloppy TMZ reporting (I use the term 'reporting' loosely).

Even in the USA, the thought of TMZ commenters affecting anything (box office takings included) is laughable to me.

Love, shuffler.

COLLIN-----WHO CARES WHY THE GUY WANTED AN AUTOGRAPH?????? THE POINT IS HE COULD HAVE BEEN A FAN AND NOT A BOTTOM FEEDER OPPORTUNIST, AND CAMERON IS STILL A JACK@$$ FOR TRYING TO BE A GOOD GUY ON CAMERA AND AN @$$HOLE TO THE PUBLIC. 5 SECONDS TO SCRIBBLE A NAME AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER AND DONE WITH. NOW EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S AN @$$ AND THE BOTTOM FEEDER OPPORTUNIST IS BENEFITING FROM THE WHOLE DEAL. NICE.

James, when you directed Charlie in the movie "The Terminator", did you get to meet Linda Hamilton? She's Hot.

It doesn't matter that the guy is an autograph hound. Nothing in the video implies that James knew that before hand. As far as James knew, the guy was a fan of his work, and most recently Avatar (Which sucked by the way!) With that being presumed, James simply went off on the fan. Even though the fan may or may not have known that just a week earlier James stated that he would sign every autograph that people lined up for, the fact remains that James said it. So, he lies in his interviews, and goes off on people who say they're fans of his work. Maybe he was just pissed off that there were only a couple of people who even care who he is at the airport. If there had been a thousand people there waiting for him, it probably would have been a totally different reaction. Who cares really? The guy is a douchebag, and doesn't deserve to be supported. Most of his movies suck anyway, so it won't be too hard to avoid his future work. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay to see this latest piece of fecal celluloid (Got free tickets from a radio station).

What a piece of crap James Cameron is! Is that he treats any moviegoer who'd asked for his autograph in a public place like LAX. Well excuse me 'Mr King of the World' you're just standing their doing nothing waiting for your car, and rather than take three seconds to sign an autograph, he bash moviegoers on what a-holes they are.

I definitely would never pay money to see any of his work from now on. He's obviously a very evil man in real life.

WHEN YOU PAY TO SEE A MOVIE THAT'S ALL YOU ARE ENTITLED TO, TO WATCH THE MOVIE. PPL LIKE THIS ARE THE REASON THE PAPS BEHAVE THE WAY THAT THEY DO. THEY THINK THAT BECAUSE YOU BUY MOVIE OR CONCERT TICKETS A CELEB OWES YOU SOMETHING & THEY DONT. WATCH YOUR MOVIE & MIND YOUR BUSINESS.

It seems Cameron's minions are out in full force on this thread today! And yes, it appears Malv is one of them.

The only people who would defend Cameron in this scenario, either work for him, or have very low self esteem and consider themselves beneath the man and would probably be all happy if he spit on them. Pathetic.

...mightymad, i apologize for pointing out any grammatical errors. mine are frequent. i was stooping. i'd like you to understand my position. i'm not spamming for cameron. this is about his rights, not about the man personally. i like that everyone is adamant about something, and i love a good argument, any well-thought out adverse opinion is worth listening to...

me:

I suppose you feel like you are on the moral high ground compared to James Cameron, then, but you're not showing it by being very understanding. If you haven't read John Mayer's take on the whole thing, posted by Tommy just above, you probably should. And just give a moment to consider the possibility that this man was not a fan of James Cameron's work. If he were actually a fan who looked up to Cameron and sincerely wanted that autograph, why the sudden switch to insulting? He would not have stayed nearby and continued with the provocative comments unless he wanted a negative reaction - and he JUST might have wanted that negative reaction because there JUST happened to be a video camera recording his actions.

On the larger scale, TMZ is what's wrong with the concept of celebrity in America. If you can't see that, then you're as desperate as they are to know what famous people are doing. My question is why you are so concerned with it.
