Man in Photo is Not JFK

12/28/2009 2:57 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ received an email from someone who said the photo we posted showing a man appearing to be John F. Kennedy on a yacht with naked women was actually a photo from a 1967 Playboy photo shoot.

We have contacted Playboy and a rep says the photo did indeed run in one of its 1967 issues. We are trying to get a copy and will update as soon as we get the info.

UPDATE: 2:34 PM ET
We've now confirmed the photo was part of a Playboy spread in 1967. The image published in Playboy was published in color.

UPDATE: 1:11 PM ET
A rep from Playboy tells TMZ the photo ran as part of story titled, "Playboy's Charter Yacht Party: How to Have a Ball on the Briny with an Able-Bodies Complement of Ship's Belles." She says the photo was taken on one of the islands that make up the Grenadines (Petit Rameau).

Missing the point 101 for the socially challenged:

TMZ obtained the photo which appears to be JFK. They had it examined which said: Yes. it has not been manipulated, altered, and is a photo consistent with the time-frame of JFK's life.

All this proves is the legitimacy of the photograph and the fact it is not a fake. The quality of photo is not like the quality of photography today, OBVIOUSLY. They did what could be done to prove or disprove the authenticity of the physical photograph, not the subjects within the photo.

At least those at TMZ have the collective sacks big enough to say they are wrong where they are wrong. They were not wrong with the verification of the photograph itself, just the subjects within. To their credit, they were quick to rectify their 'mistake' and put up here for all to see and comment.

It's not like they said it was Tiger Woods.

My conclusion on the JFK "photo" is that if your purpose on the internet is to be naive, stupid and easily conned, then you are being wildly successful.

Playboy is verifying that this was part of a 1967 shoot, not that JFK was in it. So much for the experts who analyzed it. I didn't think it was JFK at all. TMZ was not the only ones who reported this, so media Fail.

Harvey Levin = Geraldo Rivera? Love how the article about the photo being fake is now buried under other updates. Not the lead story anymore, eh??

Hate to say this in hindsight, but naked women don't jump off of yachts with their arms in the air in their leisure time. That only happens on photo shoots.

Levin is paying people to authenticate things huh? Probably basing their pay on them finding it to be accurate whether true or not.

Worst case of journalism, ever. Accuracy, Accuracy, Accuracy is what I learned of Journalism.

Oh thats right, this isnt Journalism, its whatever Harvey Levin decides it should be for America.

Shame on you for pulling a "Dan Rather" on us.

Harvey, why is the gay community absolutely obsessed with the heteros and their exploits? Esp fertile heteros like JFK. Well, all of them really.
Folks like you and Perez Hilton never seem to miss any chance to belittle, mock or embarass straights. Although you are less blatent, but every bit as effective. How about a little fair play-- why don't you send your crack team of investigators and photographers after Ellen or Doogie? I'd just love to hear about some of their exploits. After all, you've got no reason to suppress any little tidbits, eh?
