Gilbert Arenas -- Not Licensed to Pack Heat

1/5/2010 2:57 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Gilbert ArenasNBA star Gilbert Arenas didn't have a license to possess the guns he stored in his locker in D.C.... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We're told there were four guns in Arenas' locker that were turned over to police, including a gold-plated Desert Eagle -- a gigantic handgun.

Arenas could be charged for "CPWL"-- carrying a pistol without a license.

As we previously reported, Arenas could also face assault charges stemming from the alleged gun-toting standoff with a teammate on Xmas Eve.

D.C. cops plan to bring in Washington Wizards coach Flip Saunders today for questioning. GM Ernie Grunfeld will be brought in later this week.

If this was the average citizens they would be looking at jail time. There should be NO, NO exception because one is a celebrity and immature.

We live in a great Nation that is governed by laws WE ALL must obey.

PLEASE lock this man up. I don’t care if he is NOT a criminal, he broke the law , bottom line.

NBA please set the BAR HIGH and make an example out of Gilbert , void his contract and let him go on his way.

My nephew is a DC police officer and I ask that Officer Lainer lock Gilbert up.

People died everyday from guns and they don’t get a 2nd chance to ask for their life; why should this immature fool be given a 2nd chance to jokingly put someone else’s life at risk.

If you put Gilbert in jail and or void his contract , I will be a die hard Wizards Fan for LIFE.

Gilbert has apologized for what happened. However, when one is dead and gone, what good is an apologize

Rev. Al Sharpton urges NBA commish David Stern, black leaders to be strict with Gilbert Arenas

•
•
WASHINGTON - Calling out black leadership groups, the NBA, and even White House security, the Rev. Al Sharpton jumped into the Gilbert Arenas circus Monday, injecting the topic of race into the conversation on the same day the Wizards guard spoke with federal prosecutors.
The civil rights activist urged NBA commissioner David Stern to come down hard on Arenas, who admitted to stockpiling unloaded weapons in his locker last month. Arenas said Monday that removing the weapons from his locker was a "misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate." Sharpton, who spoke with Stern by phone Monday and hopes to meet with him later this week, was not in a laughing mood.
"The NBA needs to stand up and send a strong message by dealing with this situation," Sharpton told the Daily News. He also chided black leadership groups for not speaking out about the "culture of violence being perpetuated in professional sports." Sharpton cited former Giant Plaxico Burress as an example of professional athletes run amok.
The NBA Players Association has not heard from the league on when Stern will levy fines or suspensions.
The head of the union, Billy Hunter, was in Sacramento holding a meeting with Kings players as part of his eight-team trip out West. The union had no reps at Arenas' meeting with the police yesterday.
Arenas is in apparent violation of the league's collective bargaining agreement for bringing firearms to the locker room and could be subject to a $50,000 fine and a possible suspension.
Sharpton believes the reaction over reports that Arenas allegedly drew a gun on teammate Javaris Crittenton on Dec. 21 has been tempered because the players involved are black.
"If it had been a white player pointing a gun at a black player, there would have been much more of an uproar," he said. "It's almost as if people are saying, 'Well, we don't expect anything better from our black athletes.'"
Sharpton also scolded White House security in an attempt at humor.
"This all happened in the Verizon Center?" Sharpton said. "This is the same place where the Obamas watched a Wizards game (on Feb. 27, 2009). You telling me that he had guns in the locker room when Obama went to the game?"
With his team flying to Philadelphia yesterday without him, Arenas met with federal prosecutors and detectives of the Metro police at the United States Attorney's office. He eluded reporters after his appointment, but he did release a statement through his attorney, Kenneth L. Wainstein, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. Arenas is expected to play tonight against the Sixers, though Crittenton did not make the trip because of a foot injury. Crittenton was not interviewed by authorities yesterday.

THANKS REV....THIS IS WHAT WE NEED. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK..

I absolutely agree with you 'k' & only wish that people like your nephew the police officer who put themselves in harms way every day for each one of us commenting here on this board & EVERY citizen in this country, were compensated based on the TRUE VALUE of the job they do & their worth to us as a society. When comparing their salary to what a douche-bag NBA thug like this Arenas earns?? IT IS A F'KING-'scuse my language but this crap just burns my hiney:)-DISGRACE TO ME, AS IT SHOULD BE TO ALL WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT! Sick of these overblown, overpaid sacks!

If you or I brought a gun to work and pulled it out on someone you would be FIRED IMMEDIATELY and told to leave the premises never to return ... (no questions asked).
They keep letting these overpaid, uneducated, thug-life ballers run amok in the streets. They have usually been raised on the streets and are completely void of social graces. Then some IDIOT owner gives them $20-30 MILLION or more for dunking a basketball! Remember Randy Moss acting like he was going to run over a Minneapolis cop with his car? If you or I had done that we'd STILL be in prison! This idiot had PLAXICO BURRESS to use as his guide and completely failed to pay attention to that legal outcome. Give him TWO YEARS (double what idiot Burress got), because he didn't pay attention. I think John Q. Public would get MORE than two years! They generally have the I.Q. of housecats and have never learned to read or write (MUCH LESS pass college courses). They couldn't pass S***!!!! Societal canker sores!

Common Sense

The 2nd Ammendment says nothing about needing a license to own or carry a gun.

Most black athletes aren't violent thugs from the streets, ignorant with low I.Q's just like most white athletes aren't ignorant trailer trash with redneck missing teeth uneducated parents. Why try to blame all black athletes because of the actions of a few idiots? You have a point, when black athletes do something stupid it's a reflection on all black people and especially black athletes. When a white athlete does something stupid, it's viewed as a singular personal flaw and the public is much more forgiving.

I live in the DC area, when this first came out, Gilbert said he brought the guns to the locker room to get them out of the home due to birth of most recent child... that he was bringing them into Security. Yeah, right.

Hey Chick? Don't go putting words in my mouth. I never said "ALL" (to use YOUR words). I have coached high school football for nearly 8 years now and frankly you don't know what you're talking about. Until you see the vast majority of these poor kids being ignored by UNMARRIED and sometimes UNKNOWN "parents" and left alone to run amok you wouldn't know. We try to provide some semblance of normalcy to them and steer them in the right direction. Yes, there are good and bad in ANY races but if you are going to sit here and tell me that the problem isn't a race issue in the NFL and the NBA then you are a NAIVE, BLIND FOOL. Keep an eye on the police blotter. It's 10 to 1 black in the NFL and 100 to 2 in the NBA blacks committing these crimes. You hate the reality and the truth, apparently. F**K political correctness. Speak the truth!
