Leno and NBC Strike 1 Hour 'Tonight' Deal

1/14/2010 10:43 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Jay Leno has made a new deal with NBC, which gives him "The Tonight Show" from 11:35 - 12:35 ... sources tell TMZ.

As we first reported, under the contract Jay had been working under, he was guaranteed the 10 PM hour. By moving him to 11:35, NBC was in breach of his contract and needed to negotiate a new deal. That is now done, sources tell TMZ.

So Conan O'Brien is out, and Jay is restored.

I will NEVER watch Leno again. Disgusting! FYI to the previous poster that said Conan took Jay's job first. NOT TRUE! This has been in the works for years. NBC and Leno are douches, and will fail

@9 - Conan didnt "take" Leno's job.
NBC agreed to give it to him 7 years ago. Leno knew the change was coming and happily set about "retiring" until NBC gave him the new time slot. Now NBC is reneging on its commitment to Conan. Indian givers, thats all they are.

So much for moving further into the 21st century with someone we could all relate to (those of us under 65). Personally, I am really sick of this whole mess. they should have told Conan ahead of time that WHEN jay tanked Conan would be skrewed...BUT WAIT, IF THEY DID THAT, IT WOULD MEAN THEY HAD SOME SCRUPLES. NBC should change it's name to WSC...as in WE SKREWED CONAN. And Jay and Zucker, PLEASE don't pretend you guys didn't have this conversation when Jay ASKED to go to primetime and Jay acting like he didn't know is really ...well, I guess we have a new saying for backstabbers...be Jay-like .....HEY, ABC OR CBS, GIVE CONAN A PRIMETIME OR THE "OLD BORING TONIGHT SHOW" SPOT, I'LL WATCH HIM ANY DAY

Leno taking over the TONIGHT SHOW is the best news about television I heard in long time.

Good riddens to Conan, looks like a clown, acts like a clown,
so go find a job in a circus.

@Ginger Smith, you are an idiot. It wasn't Conan's idea to have NBC boot Jay, it was NBC's idea. It's not his fault NBC are such f--- ups.

Nothing against Jay Leno, I like the guy, no problem, but NBC is a totally screwed up organization and WITHOUT A DOUBT, Conan is going to come back with a vengeance and deliver a massively impressive product. There is now a long list of people who are worried: Jay Leno, David Letterman, Craig Ferguson and a few more, as Conan is at liberty to gather a high seas creative team on the open range of comedy and take this scene for all its worth. Conan's world will look like it sucks for about a week, then he'll get over it and start laughing like a maniac once the new ideas start flooding in. He knows this stuff, it's basically inevitable now.

I watch both, but now I will ban watching Leno. He has never even spent his Tonight Show money so he is just doing it because he can. I hope he tanks...as far as Jeff Zucker, I hope he is out of a job for threating Conan.

It does not matter who you like or don't like. The whole thing is just disrespectful.

The only person to blame here... Conan's lawyer... apparently not as good as Jay's.

Look, these two make millions. Let's worry about ourselves first...

I know Conan fans are upset, but who gives a f***
about the Tonight Show?

Conan will go to a new network and have a great show
and we will all watch him.

Who cares if he is on channel 2 or 4 or 7 or whatever?

People are fans of a star, not of a network.

Yeah, Conan got screwed, but as soon as he's back on the
air, who's going to remember?

Conan had YEARS to get ready for his time on The Tonight Show and HE still screwed it up. He couldn't beat DL whereas Jay ALWAYS beat DL. I don't feel the least bit sorry for Conan. And all of you Conan Supporters - why weren't you watching him at 11:35? Maybe if HIS ratings had been better he'd STILL have the 11:35 show. You may be talking high and mighty, but, ratings, meaning advertising revenue, speak a heck of a lot louder than your rants on sites like this!

#9 - Ginger Smith, NO YOU ARE WRONG! Jay came on his show back in September 27, 2004 and announced in 5 years he was going to RETIRE (u dip!) and the next in-line to take the helm of The Tonight Show would be Conan O'Brien. Make sure you get your facts straight before you go 'saying that Leno' is the victim here or that he was DEMOTED! He is the one who went to NBC and told them it was time for him to retire! GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

The right thing that Leno SHOULD HAVE DONE was to step-aside, like the class-acts that his predecessors all have been! Leno has made a mockery of The Tonight Show legacy and if anyone cares about this television institution is show him how much they do not appreciate what and how he has handled this situation and not tune into this return show!

I am sure that all the predecessors of The Tonight Show are all rolling in their graves over how NBC and especially Jay has handled this situation.

I for one will not ever watch Jay Leno or The Tonight Show again.

With the money these guys both make, how can anyone feel sorry for them. They both work the deals that will be the best for them and neither should be hurting. I have always preferred Jay and he was the one that was screwed over first. NBC is lucky he is sticking it out. Conan is just letting his ego take over but he will be fine. Makes more in one year than the rest of us do for life and is not all that great. The head of NBC is the one who should go.
