Brittany Murphy's Family: She Never Did Drugs

1/21/2010 7:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brittany Murphy's mother and husband just appeared on "Today" -- one month after her death -- to slam rumors the actress used drugs and had an eating disorder.

Simon Monjack & Sharon Murphy: Click to watch
Simon Monjack says his wife wasn't taking anything "for her mood, anorexia, mental illness" -- adding she only used prescriptions for her "menstrual time."

The two also took aim at Warner Bros. and anyone involved in "Happy Feet 2" -- a sequel offered to Brittany and then taken off the table after rumors of her being fired from another movie started circulating -- saying that anyone who takes the role intended for her is "horrible."

Monjack is notorious for having litigiously forced his way into taking credit for films for which he had no orginal involvement in - like George Hickenlooper's Factory Girl, and weaseling his way into movie productions like Britt's last proposed film, Shrinking Charlotte. If you check the imdb page for that flick, you'll see that Monjack used Britt to get the directors to rewrite the script and give him the film's Executive Producer status, of which Monjack never had absolutely nothing to do with, prior to the movie part being offered to Britt.

Interesting fact to note: several weeks before Her Passing, Brittany and Monjack were removed from production of The Caller in Puerto Rico, mostly because of Monjack's irrational behavior on the film set, in addition to Brittany's insistence on allowing Her "husband" to remain on the set regardless of Monjack's constant interruptions and interference. After 'Caller' director Matthew Parkhill suggested that Monjack stay off the set, Britt stated vehemently to [Parkhill] that, in effect, if [Monjack] goes then [She] goes as well. This left Parkhill no choice but to relieve Brittany of Her contract, and then hire Rachelle LeFevre as Britt's replacement.

As well, it's now been suggested that Britt lost her part in Happy Feet 2 because Monjack once again strongarmed his way into the CG feature's production, to which Warner Bros. rightfully would not allow Monjack to either participate in, or take undue credit for. If Britt had the same "if he goes, then I go" attitude with Warner Bros. as She had with the 'Caller' director, then Warner had no choice but to relieve Britt of Her contract. Thus the split between Warner Bros. and Brittany was indeed "mutual"... and not a mean-spirited severance on Warner's part, due to internet *drug rumours* or other non-consequential, celebrity website-type gossip.

Ben from Baltimore

I believe that she may have been fired over false tabloid rumors. My friend was fired over office rumors/gossip that she was having sex in the office unisex bathroom on the second floor with a male coworker which were not true. Now she has been blacklisted from getting another office job somewhere else. I had contacted a friend that was my old office boss during my senior year work study on the job training program who has a reputation of thoroughly checking on whether or not rumors/gossip are true (which Warner Bros. apparently didn't do) because they need people to input data into Microsoft Excel, and she may be getting a phone call within a few business days. I won't be taking my sister to see this film (I am her transportation to the movies) if it is made.
