Everyone loves "The Jersey Shore" -- but not everyone can fit inside a small New Jersey club, so they had to shut the club down. 
Law enforcement in Montlcair, NJ tells TMZ the event at the 501 Lounge got waaaaaay overcrowded, so the fire department shut the whole club down.
A source inside the club tells us J-WOWW and Vinny were there for the event and they actually had to be hidden away in a closet while the club was cleared out.
They escaped unscathed.

The club did NOT get shut down. They just stopped letting people in. It's what normally happens when a club hits capacity. They also had other performances like Kim Sozzi there.
