Michael Jackson Filipino Inmates Strike Again

1/25/2010 4:34 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

With all the time in the world on their hands, the inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in the Philippines have learned another Michael Jackson routine ... with some help.

Jackson's long-time choreographer Travis Payne, with dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid, taught the inmates routines from "This Is It."

It's just how Michael would have wanted it.

Unbelievable! Way to go Travis! Way to keep Michael's charisma, inspiration and spirit alive. I'm so glad that through the people Michael worked with you are continuing to spread his message. You just took us places we had never been before and experienced something we had not experienced before. Thanks for adding joy to my day. I hope his mom and children have seen this.

I've often thought this is the answer to the ugliness and unruliness in American prisons...dance may be the answer (bringing the negative emotions into balance and opening the heart) plus serious one-on-one and group therapy.

Yes, most do care, MJ...it is important that blame rest where it originated, i.e. a dysfunctional family environment where the children do not grow-up mirroring self-love and self-worth. There's a great percentage of American youth who grew-up in poverty but who are innately strong and see the (inward) light and decide to walk the yellow brick road instead of causing mayhem and societal destruction.

Bring dance to the American prisons!

ninicanvas@ 4:28, you are completely right, they do not have to be punished for the rest of their lives BUT WHILE SERVING THEIR TIME, THEY ARE CRIMINALS AND SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE INMATES.

You actually believe a person who commits a crime should be allowed to receive dancing lessons? Would you feel the same if it was on your dime? Or how about if the crime they committed was against you or someone you loved? Come on! I'm all about forgiveness and moving forward, I just believe WHILE SERVING YOUR TIME YOU ARE A CRIMINAL AND SHOULD BE TREATED ACCORDINGLY.

Call me old fashioned but I believe if you do the crime, you must do the time. And doing time does not include dance lessons.

Michael would have never approved of giving to criminals BEFORE NEEDY CHILDREN! If you think Michael would have approved of this, you truly know nothing about him.

Brilliant. Yes, they are inmates but at least they're doing something that is creative, organized and involves discipline. (Ever done dance? Lots of discipline!) I'm sure they were watched over carefully. Good job Mr. Payne, you rocked it! Keep the memory alive! I think Michael Jackson would have liked the overall thought and effect behind it despite the "criminal" nature. RIP MJ.

Wonderful! Maybe some of them could have a career in dancing if they get out. They did a great job, very moving. Thanks Travis! Loved it!

P.S. to those people so against inmates dancing ... what part of REHABILITATION do you not understand? Along with "hard labour", which likely is part of their day, organized group activity is not a bad thing. It's definitely rehabilitative.

What the hell is wrong with those people who say this is NOT what MJ would have wanted? You are not him, only he would know what HE WANTED. The routine was great by the way... It's a rehabilitation facility for criminals, and what a great way to get their minds off the violent and bitter thoughts...
