NBA Suspends Arenas & Crittenton for Season

1/27/2010 6:31 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton won't be playing in the NBA any time soon -- they've officially been suspended for the season for bringing guns to the locker room.

NBA Suspends Arenas & Crittenton for Season

NBA Commissioner David Stern announced today that the two Washington Wizards players have been suspended for the remainder of the season without pay.

Stern released a statement on his decision, claiming "The issue here is not about the legal ownership and possession of guns, either in one's home or elsewhere. It is about possession of guns in the NBA workplace, which will not be tolerated."

Stern noted, "It is not disputed that ... both Mr. Arenas and Mr. Crittenton brought guns to the Verizon Center locker room and ... displayed them to one another in a continuation of their dispute."

Stern claims he met with both players -- and they each expressed remorse. Stern added that both men "have volunteered to engage in community service in order to turn the lessons they have learned into an educational message for others.

Here is Stern's letter in its entirety ... "The NBA has conducted a thorough investigation of events relating to this matter ...

"It is not disputed that, following an argument on the team's flight home from a game in Phoenix, both Mr. Arenas and Mr. Crittenton brought guns to the Verizon Center locker room and – with other players and team personnel present or nearby – displayed them to one another in a continuation of their dispute. The players engaged in this conduct despite a specific rule set forth in the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the Players Association prohibiting players from possessing a weapon at an NBA facility, and reminders of this prohibition given annually by the NBA to players both in writing and in person.

"The issue here is not about the legal ownership and possession of guns, either in one's home or elsewhere. It is about possession of guns in the NBA workplace, which will not be tolerated.

"I have met separately with Mr. Arenas and with Mr. Crittenton. Both have expressed remorse for their actions and an understanding of the seriousness of their transgressions. Both have volunteered to engage in community service in order to turn the lessons they have learned into an educational message for others. I accept fully the sincerity of their expressions of regret and intent to create something positive from this incident.

"Nevertheless, there is no justification for their conduct. Accordingly, I am today converting Mr. Arenas' indefinite suspension without pay to a suspension without pay for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, and am also suspending Mr. Crittenton without pay, effective immediately, for the remainder of the 2009-10 season." That is why the NBA is nothing but Aholes, making millions and you have life by the nuts, and you carry a handgun into your workplace. If this was a normal job your but would have been fired and you would be in jail. Grow UP already. Maybe yuo should have shot yourself in the leg like Burress.

Little Gilbert can kiss his multimillion dollar contract good-bye. He's only been healthy enough to play in about 3 games in the last 3 years, yet they signed him to a $111 million deal? Now the Wizards (Bullets?) have their chance to undo their stupid deal. Just watch...

JCF:

Originally, TMZ writer had "Daniel" Stern instead of "David"...they must actually read some of these posts and actually changed it. Occasionally they do that--when their lack of education is pointed out to them in such a sound fashion...

Just wondering

Wow, such harsh comments! They should definitely be punished for breaking the law. Unloaded guns were not suppose to be in their locker rooms. But I can definitely tell that the readers on here are more upset about "who" these guys are and about the amount of money they were making, than the real issue at hand. Everyone knows that America at large is really upset that certain people get paid a lot of money to play basketball.
But wasn't I reading on this site about Michael Douglas's son getting busted for drug possesion with intent to distribute. I couldn't believe that people were actually defending him, and making excuses. Getting high and selling drugs, I guess that's not bad and unlawful unless you are a certain group of people.....

Now that these two gun slingers have been suspended for playing Gun Fight at The OK Corral without pay now they have a reason to shoot each other. When are these two morons going to learn. I know the both of them now can become gang bangers and play out their fantasy in Club Fed.
