Alleged Victim of Rip Torn -- Torn Himself

1/31/2010 9:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Rip TornRip Torn is so in need of help, even the CEO of the bank he allegedly broke into on Friday night wants to see someone stage an intervention.

Torn was arrested after cops found him drunk inside a bank in Connecticut with a loaded revolver.

Mark E. Macomber, President/CEO of Litchfield Bancorp in Connecticut, tells TMZ no one was in the building at the time Torn allegedly broke in -- and the only damage was to the smashed window cops say was Torn's point of entry.

Macomber says he didn't believe Torn was trying to hurt anyone or steal anything. Macomber spoke to authorities in Connecticut who told him Torn was found lying on the floor. He said cops believe Torn thought he was in his own house.

He called the incident a "serious matter," but seemed to think Torn needed help with his alcohol problem more than anything else.

Torn was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief. He is due in court on Monday.

UPDATE: As of Sunday morning, Rip Torn is still in custody.

It would appear that his family does not recognize that Rip Torn has dementia and instead attribute his behavior to alcohol.

It's ironic that in 98 he was in a film called The Almost Perfect Bank Robbery. I'm not sure this came close.

i live very close to where this happened. you can't imagine how quiet this area is - there's virtually NO crime of any kind - this incident is probably the biggest thing in years - he really needs help.

It will be interesting to see how the authorities handle this. If he was anyone else other than an old famous drunk - if he was another white person, black, pink, purple or green person - he would be doing jail time. It will be interesting to see how they treat him because he's a famous old drunkard.

Oops, yeah, right, another rich celebrity will once again walk away from his criminal behavior. Go, legal system!

He was at his home with his revolver (legal) most likely then walked outside and well with the #1 poison in this country ALCOHOL he did what he did not knowing what he was doing. Just like many of you women and guys do when your drunk. Them fat chicks look good after 10 beers and them guys you women think are bums turn into prince charming after a margarita.
Then you go home the next day and chit water from your sewage hole. That makes you important right?
I say let him off and rehab is mandatory

Maybe he should start smoking pot, this does not happen with pot like alcohol and you know it.

Give Rip a break. He wasn't driving this time (thank goodness!) and the most harm done was the a smashed window. He needs help, not punishment.

Let him spend the remaining days of life on earth in State Prison---he's a danger to the innocent. With a car or with a gun. As they say in AA "there are such unfortunates", who will never get sober no matter how bad things get for them---never, ever...he's one of the unfortunates.

Jail him the remainder of his days. For his own sake, but more importantly the people and children of Connecticut.

I wonder if I could convince the CEO of B of A here in California to let me off on attempted armed robbery charges if the heist fails?
