LAPD/D.A. Feud Derails Dr. Murray Arraignment

2/5/2010 10:11 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The scheduled arraignment Friday for Dr. Conrad Murray in the death of Michael Jackson will not take place as scheduled because of the feud between the L.A. County D.A. and the LAPD over Dr. Murray's surrender.

Dr. Conrad Murray and Michael Jackson

As we first reported, the LAPD was bent out of shape -- and that is an understatement -- because the D.A. had kept cops in the dark and had been working with Dr. Murray's lawyers to arrange a voluntary surrender in court at the time of the arraignment.

The plan as of Thursday afternoon: Dr. Murray's lawyers would drive him to the L.A. County Sheriff's Office at the Airport Courthouse in L.A. at 5:30 AM Friday, along with a bail bondsman. Dr. Murray would be booked, post bail and then walk into court without handcuffs or chains.

We're told the LAPD so vehemently objected to the plan ... the D.A. finally backed off. The LAPD wants to arrest Dr. Murray, book him and bring him into court in handcuffs and/or chains -- something that is fairly standard in homicide cases.

The plan has fallen apart and we're told ... as of now ... there will be no arraignment tomorrow.

It's starting out shaky, folks.

This is the biggest piece of f*uck*ery that i have ever read!! The DA is allowing the doc to walk into court, post bail and leave?? WTF??? Im surprised they arent renting a limo for him to arrive in...Now, the LAPD wants to arrest him in a way that a murderer should be arrested...AND THEY ARE FIGHTING OVER THIS??
*side-eyes the DA...The DA seems to be treating this murderous doc like he is some celebrity of sorts...

Only in Cali can you kill the one of the biggest entertainers in the world and get a 5 star treatment!!

Are the courts open for business on weekends in LA? Like if they arrested him on saturday, would he have to wait until monday to post bail? I know that's how it works in NYC.

We need "Brenda" from TV show-- "The Closer"-- She would whip them all into shape and eat candy while she did it.

LAPD JUST GO ARREST HIM! LA DA, put your d**ks back in your pants and get over yourselves. Murray doesn't DESERVE to have his ARREST negotiated!

HE KILLED MICHAEL JACKSON. Michael Jackson, regardless of his global iconic stature, was another human being, with 3 beautiful children, a mother, father, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews who loved him. They were not consulted to see if it was convenient to LA DA's office that he be suddenly KILLED by Conrad Murray.

I still support LAPD. They DESERVE to make this arrest, the public DEMANDS Murray be arrested and not treated as a celebrity and be allowed to walk around Forest Lawn, as a final most insulting act. We want it on the front page of every paper. On breaking news.

Oh I am so mad.

I knew it! This is unbelievable! We have waited 7 months to see that man arrested, and he's still free. Maybe he will give himself some profonol and save the taxpayers some money. I usually never feel this way about anyone but I am so angry over what he did to poor trusting Michael!

This whole situation sounds crazy and he!! I do not understand why he is getting a slap on his wrist. If this would have been anybody else, they wouldn't even tell you the time they were coming to get you and they sure as he!! would not allow the person to set up a time to come in to be arrested. Also, any other person who is considered innocent until otherwise proven guilty, is usually arrested and handcuffed in the broad daylight when there is numerous amounts of people around (for the embarrassment), charged, fingerprinted, mugshots taken, and then arraigned. What a joke, when it comes to judicial system on some people.

So now they're worried that black people will think that it's racist to handcuff Murray ??? He killed a black man (Michael Jackson). Also I don't remember any riots back in 2003 when MJ was handcuffed by Santa Barbara authorities. Give me a break. The quack doctor should have been arrested already.

I agree with some of the posters above who feel it will only make the doctor look more sympathetic if he is hauled into court with handcuffs and chains on him. It sounds like a power struggle between the DA and LAPD, and totally unnecessary. Parading a black man around in handcuffs and chains, especially in such a mixed neighborhood, is not going to help strengthen the government's case against him.

It's not like Dr. Murray is going to grab an officer's gun and try to escape. I have no sympathy for the guy and a lot of people hate him, but an unnecessary display of handcuffs and chains is just going to draw more of a media circus and perhaps endanger public safety. I would think LAPD would want this done as quickly and smoothly as possible.

I believe, as do many people, that one of the reasons OJ walked on the criminal charges is because so many black people on the jury were all-too familiar with LAPD's tactics against African Americans.

Just one example: one of my friends who was a black woman in her mid-50's was walking down a street in Hollywood trying to reach her bank's ATM machine. It was quite cold out that night, and she was bundled up in a pea coat, wearing jeans and athletic shoes, and walking fast down the sidewalk, not strolling, because she was so cold. A cop car pulled up beside her and started harassing her accusingly about where she was going and what she was really up to, implying that she was a prostitute.

HOWEVER, right across the street was a young white woman who was obviously a hooker, and was strolling up and down the sidewalk in very short hot pants and high heels, even on that cold a night, while her pimp was parked just down the street in his Cadillac. The police ignored the actual hooker and her pimp and instead harassed my elderly black friend who was obviously not dressed to turn tricks; she was just trying to walk to her bank because she didn't have a car. It was some years ago, before ATM's were in almost every store, as they are now.

Also, she said her two bi-racial sons were walking down a sidewalk in Hollywood one day, when cops started accusing them of dealing drugs and threw them up against a wall, while right nearby some Hispanic men were dealing drugs right there in plain view of the police, but the police completely ignored them.

One of her sons who was thrown against the wall that day is actually so mentally gifted and was such a good student that he had at that time just accepted the offer a full scholarship to Loyola Law School and has since graduated and become a prosecutor. The other son also makes good money by owning his own towing business, and neither had any connection with drugs. Yet the police singled them both out for abuse when all they were doing was walking down the sidewalk.

Another friend of mine, a young black man about 19 at the time (about 20 years ago), would sometimes be pulled over by police in Hollywood without provocation; he was a young black man driving a Z. Once he had come from the dentist and his mouth was still bleeding and packed with bloody gauze. The police were man-handling him, tossing him against his car and harassing him about the antibiotics he had in his pants which the dentist had told him to take.

It's hard for some white people in some other parts of the country to understand why the jury did what it did in acquitting OJ in the criminal case. As a white woman, I also would have had trouble believing it if I didn't actually live out here and know how some of my friends had been treated. It is easy to see how the OJ criminal trial jury did not trust some of the evidence, like the bloody glove, the bloody sock, etc., because of LAPD's reputation at that time (it has improved since then).

Of course, by the time the subsequent civil trial against OJ was held, numerous photos of OJ had surfaced, showing him wearing the shoes which were suspected of having left the prints at the murder scene -- the shoes he had denied ever owning.

LAPD's reputation has improved considerably since the events I described above involving my friends, and since the OJ criminal trial and also since Chief Gates left office, but this power struggle with the DA is not going to help.
